By the way, it looks like we have a new addition to the list - Cars. Reviews are generally positive saying that it's a fun little romp. |

There is more variety in the gameplay, better graphics, and probably higher challenge. But, if you're expecting it to be just like Zelda 1, don't be surprised when it isn't. It's for NES. And be patient, it does start off a little slow but does get much better and more involved. Look on gamefaqs, most of the reviews for it are pretty favorable and will tell you what to expect. But one idiot couldn't figure out how to automatically pick up items (without the menu). You just walk up to it and hit A, duh. |

The wiki list is missing a good movie/game combo: Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Though, there is some substantial stuff added in that I think is part of the traditional story and not in the movie. Things like a giant invincible skeleton guard, various quests to save Marian from a chapel, additional characters not in the film, and a lake full of magical posionous beasts. The logo and character likenesses are in the game though. Very good game that I would recommend to anyone. Plays quite a lot like Zelda but is in many ways better. |

The levels are based and created around the exact same blueprints by Peter Lamont used to create the sets in the film. The level missions and order of the levels follow the film very closely, and at the times where it does depart from the film, (silo, bunker 2, etc), the level ideas and missions are taken straight from the novel adaption of the Goldeneye film by Raymond Benson. The music also closely resembles that of Eric Serra's soundtrack at points, making the game very alike to the film itself. Altogether, it's one of the most 'authentic' film to game adaptations of all time. Then again I may have totally misunderstood your comment, which could have meant that you find the game to be inferior to the film. But oh well. |

But to be fair, he would have a point that the Pokemon GAMES - you can have your own opinions on the franchise - are generally solid. It's a rare case of a game becoming a licensed property. |

I remember when one of my mates was trying to convince me that Pokémon is the greatest game based on a tv/film licence ever.
Oh, how I laughed. I never did get the chance to tell him that the films and televison series were actually based on the games in the first place though. |

But then again, I liked that McDonalds game for the NES where you played as Ronald.
You're thinking of MC Kids, which isn't a bad game - but you didn't control Ronald at all. |

Ohhhh I recall a little know game called "Goldeneye". You may have heard of it, based off that movie of the same name. *cough* |

It seems none of you mentioned Willow for NES. that game was based on a movie and it totally rocks. |

It seemed that, at least in the 8-bit and 16-bit days, publishers with proven track records (like Capcom, Konami, etc.) had a better chance of coming out with a good licensed game than the others. Makes sense. They went after good properties while companies like Acclaim went after, oh, I dunno... Total Recall. |

I know that many of the old games were pretty good. I played some sort of Disney game (it was a long time ago) featuring Mickey and Donald. The first level was some sort of forest with enemies made of leaves. I also played Mickey Mania for the SNES. Both were good games.
Edit: I think it was called World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Thanks, Wikipedia! |

Colin is absolutely right about the Capcom/Disney thing.
Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse FTW. THAT is one great platformer. |

Wikipedia FTW!
Off the top of my head from that list... The Chronicles of Riddick was supposed to be really good. And Capcom had a great run of Disney games. |

There are exceptions to the rule, to be sure, but that does nothing but prove the existence of the rule. |
