And that contract is officially ridiculous.

Most of it is image rights, but still... ridiculous. Now how many games will Capello give Beckham by the end of the season?

Didn't catch the Celtic-game as the media 'round these parts prefer to show matches involving English teams, and as such showed United vs. Benfica. The pub the day before decided to show Galatasaray vs. Liverpool, a completely uninteresting match, in stead of Barca vs. Bremen, the more interesting match (that even for once was the main-match. The pub had to tap into some obscure channel to find Gala vs. 'pool). 'course, the worst part is that with the insane ammount of Liverpool-fans 'round these parts they probably made more money that way.

All in all, though, I'm a bit disappointed. No big surprises. The "expert commentary" on Norwegian TV called Celtic going through a big shocker, and that they're going to get raped in the next round.

Of course, the same idiots predicted that Brazil was a shoe-in for the World Cup, and that Germany would tank it early on. I love how I'm always better at predicting stuff than the expert commentary.

Hey now Man U. Only needed one point and they got all three from the Benfica game.

They pushed the whole game, and Benfica's sole assault on Man U's goal resutled in their only strike.

Also: what happened to Celtic, holy cow.

In other news, there were reports that Jurgen Klinsmann was signed as US coach, but those rumors got shot down on-air by Tommy Rae.

Canada is a very physical team. Not dirty... but physical. They can wear teams down several ways, and hard tackling is one of them.

But... OY. #2 seed in CONCACAF for the WC, again. Stupid last-minute penalty decisions DECIDING THE GAME.

How did Canada do at the game against the US, Colin?

I'm too lazy to look it up myself...All I know is that my British friend who follows female soccer says that, to quote, "The Canadian girls know how to use their boots better than most girls"

Canada and the United States tied 1-1 at halftime in the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup final. Seems to be a pretty even match, actually...

We're due. :\

Blackburn makes it to the next round of the UEFA Cup as well. All in all, things are looking up in the world of football.

Here's to Blackburn drawing Barcelona!

Yes, yes we did.

On that point, at least the Muscovites aren't as bad as the other Slav teams.

I've not had the time to follow the league taht closely, though.

No Celtic bashing allowed in this thread.

Saha made a boo-boo on the botched offside. The penalty save was all Boruc guessing right.

Oh, and your Ukrainians finally got a win today. XD Actually an impressive one too... Shakhtar over Roma 1-0.

Fucking Celtic.

Saha needs to be beaten for stopping when he thought>/i> he was offside.

God damn.

Oh ho ho ho ho...

Ah ha ha ha ha...

BWAHAHAHA!!! ^_____^

Celtic were great today... OK... not "great" but we got the job done unlike United, and no last-minute penalty decision was going to screw us over this time! We were due!

We still have to finish the job. Go to Copenhagen, beat FCK and go into the draw as a group winner. Who knows... Celtic vs. AEK Athens in the Round of 16 could be a possibility.

So, congrats on making it to the next round! Nakamura's free kick may have been dubious, I'm not sure if it was a tackle or not, but all in all, Celtic haven't let in a single goal at home in the Champions League this year and they deserve their spot in the next round!

Bah! Wrong post in the thread.

Still, wanted to say that Celtic just won their 11th game in a row over Caley Thistle today, 3-0. Celtic beat every team in the league during that span and I want the title to be handed to us next weekend kthx.

So, uhm, how 'bout them ADO Den Haag keepers?

It also tells you how even the Tippeliga is, because a team in mid-table with 5 games to go could conceivably bang off 5 straight wins to possibly get a European spot.

The Canadian Soccer Association (read: our FA) fired chief operating officer Kevan Pipe late last week. It was probably a move that had to be made, because the last good accomplishments Pipe did were getting the U20 World Cup and (probably) getting a new TV deal with CBC (which looks a lot more promising than the Sportsnet deal... think the BBC getting England rights). So now we need...

- A chief operating officer to handle the sponsorships and our possible bid for the 2011 Women's World Cup;
- A technical director to manage all of our national teams;
- A head coach for the men's team, which should be announced in the next two months - and the players have made it clear they want someone with experience.

Oh well. At least we still have Even to lead our girls into the 2007 Women's WC.

Word on the street is he's homesick. His fiancé is still in Canada, so I guess Toronto FC would be a viable option.

What's funny is that four matches ago, the statistians gave Tromsų a measly 14% chance of avoiding relegation. Now, at the end, survival without even having to play the dreaded play-off.

Usually, they say 30 is the magic number. 30 points is considered "safe", and is the number most coaches who fight to avoid relegation set as their goal ahead of season. Since the Tippeliga was upgraded to 14 teams, only 1 team has ended in playoff with 30 points (Molde last year), no team has been relegated at 30 points.

This year, however, the magic number was 29!

10 Tromsų 29pts
11 Viking 29pts
====
12 Odd 29pts
-------
13 HamKam 28pts
14 Molde 25pts

Congratulations! It all worked out in the end and you managed a fantastic escape from the drop. Now you can relax and work things out for next season, hopefully finishing in a safe mid-table spot.

Where's Bernier rumored to go? I'm guessing he either stays in Scandinavia or Toronto FC tries to lure him back to North America.
