Often enough, people don't know the true meaning of insults yet still know that they're insults. I'm sure you've seen things like this before, it's not new.

It's not really a big deal, one way or the other... Insults only hurt if you let them. "Nerd" is really not that bad an insult by any stretch of the imagination.

After all... aren't nerds traditionally considered smart? Could be worse.

EDIT: Also, I doubt making him use his computer less would get rid of it. Typically that kind of label sticks even if conditions change.
