Well now I've deleted the switch mountain, since I can't find the pieces to fix it and no one else seems to like it anyway.

I mean, it's not that bad, but there are quite a few flaws.

Where does the switch palace take you when you beat it? It looks like there is an entire new trail going somewhere...

Also, the ground below the "yellow switch mountain" doesn't fit together like that, you need to use the corner pieces to make it look like it's coming from the ground. (Sort of like the left side of the bottom of it, but flip them so they are facing the other direction.)

The dark pathway that is leading to the ladder of the mountain is messed up too; try using the triangle pieces that look like "/| " and "|\ " to make it look like a path is trailing somewhere. And if you get that in, you can fix the two ground tiles next directly under the ladder. They should be showing the "~~" to make it look more realistic.

I'm not sure, but it might look better if you put one of those octagon pads underneath the switch palace; that is, if you really want it to lead off into a new direction. Otherwise, what you have there would work.

Good job with the little bumps and hill-esque things though, you really did that pretty well. It makes the overworld look a bit more nice.

Also, I'm assuming the castle is at the top of that mountain then? If so, then I guess that's okay...

My main complaint, and probably everyone elses, would probably be the shape of your island. It's nearly identical man! You should consider reshaping the island, or making it a square of land. Do something creative and original, we've all seen Yoshi's Island before!

When you finish your new OW or whatever, post a new screenshot. But for now, I wouldn't bother

@Cirvante: The switch palace palettes are specific to each submap I believe

Agh. Never mind.

I looked at the pic more closely, and turns out you were right.

Don't stick the paths so close together!

It does...? The switch palace = exit #2.

In the original game, red level tiles indicated that the level had a secret (secondary) exit. Most of us still respect that rule, why can't you?

There are two exits for the red level...so what's wrong?
Edit: And I tried changing the pallete, it didn't work...

Have you ever tried actually changing the palette?!?

The yellow switch mountain comes down later.

No. It comes down now.

Edit: Good. Fair enough.

He has an excellent point. You need to delete the whole map and make a different design. It's exactly like the original still and needs to be changed.

By the way, if you insist on keeping the original map at LEAST do something about the northeast corner...there's nothing there, just scenery. Add a level or two.

Still too similar to the original. The detail looks okay, but a bit... cluttery.

The "1" sign should be near a castle. Do you have a castle? No? Then take it out!

That red switch does NOT go there. I think you just put it there to mask your inability to handle paths properly.

The red level tile still does not have a secret exit. Change it.

And I'm 100% sure that you haven't even begun editing the events yet.

Oh, and one last bit of advice:

Remove the yellow switch mountain

Remove the yellow switch mountain

Remove the yellow switch mountain

But if you absolutely MUST keep it, fix the bottom tiles!!

Listen, NightKev. I rarely behave like an asshole to all the noobs. Please, please don't let your incessant naiveté be the reason for me to start doing so on a regular basis.

Edit: Dammit Peter you beat me again!!

1 Sign: but there IS a castle, it's up there, hence the sign.

I had the same thing happen to me before...it's some sort of glitch in events that makes the tile invisible. Your best bet would be to change the event number you are using to reveal that tile.

When I say more detail, I mean completely fill the map with eye-pleasing graphics. Here's a couple of my old ones if you'd like an example.

(ignore the nasty background colour on the last one) (and the messed up tree corner in the top one)

But see how I fill my maps, use unique palettes, and make the maps themselves unique? That's what you want to try to do...adding an extra rock to your map doesn't make it more appealing.

For the tile on the cliff, there is a tile somewhere in the 8x8 editor that has a ladder leading into ground. That is the tile you want. I don't feel like making you a screenie of it, but I'm letting you know it DOES exist, you just have to look harder.

Please post another picture when you have taken mine, and everyone elses advice

Eh, I'll get better eventually, bob says he can fix the paths and stuff if I do the rest of it.

Unfortunately, you probably won't if you keep making the same errors...

1. The path should NOT split going vertically
2. Still not enough detail
3. You should kinda realize that the areas behind the northeast hills are ugly. When peteer said put a piece of land behind it, he meant one that joins the cliff. If you don't do that, it will wreck the whole laws of science or whatever...aka it won't make sense.
4. Yellow switch cliff is STILL messed
5. The bottom right of the farthest right hill cuts off the cliff. Fix it.

I don't know what else to say....just....fix them.

1) Does no one read my posts? I said I didn't know how to fix it, there IS a level there, it's just invisible.
2) Ok.
3) Ohhhh.
4) Poo on the cliff, I can't find a tile to fix it.
5) Ok.

Edit: Three pages already...
Edit2/3: Well, three pages for me, I have 50 posts per page layout. So...11 pages for people with 10 post per page, and 100st post for me.
