The overall design of the game. A good game is created by having a good design... how good the world is in it or how it's set up. The plot, the music, the graphics (not how cool-looking the graphics are, but how they fit the style of the game).
These are all very important when it comes to making a good game, and game designers should always consider it.

I enjoy games that one can "master", ie there's some above and beyond 100% aside from beating the game, eg bonus levels, jobs in rpgs, weapons, etc. Man, I wish I could have fit QED in there somewhere.

I care most about the existence of original ideas. Games like Roll Away (Kula World in Europe, Kula Quest in Japan), the Lololo games, and... I can't think of any more right now, they're great games by my standards because no one else did anything like them. Along the same lines, I like the first game in each series more than the sequels in most cases. Oh, also, many of the games I like are considered very trippy and weird, like for example Nights into Dreams. That game owned.
Next I suppose is music. My tastes are mostly jazz and classical, with bits of rock, metal, and new age thrown in... So it surprises me when I end up jamming to game music from completely different genres as my "real music" preferences. For example, I loved the music in Shadow's levels in Sonic Adventure 2. I want the games I play to have really exceptional music... Like Roll Away (heh, I'm addicted to it again), Chrono Cross, the Tales and Lunar games... yeah. Liscenced music is a real annoyance to me. As for story... I used to think it mattered to me a lot, but it really doesn't. I like Roll Away (there it is again) as much as many RPGs touted for their compelling stories. Besides that, I don't particularly care about graphics, as long as I can keep track of what's going on, and I actually like minor glitches in games, as long as they don't make the game unplayable. I've gone and cared about a post. WTF.

I don't care about the story, unless it's a Squeenix-styled rpg in which case it'd damn well have the best story ever because the gameplay sure does suck. They always have such crappy plots though...
So yeah, gameplay > art style (not necessarily awesome graphics, just how the game is represented) > music > whatever else.

Gameplay > Story > Multiplayer > Music > Replay > Difficulty (hopefully with multiple settings) > Graphics.
Yeah, that's really it.

As for me, Gameplay is the main factor. Then the game should be funny, enough to get me pick it and play it. In third place should come music, that must be appealing and not a repetitive one. And the bonus are graphics, with a limit to at least don't have glitches.

I want good gameplay, good music and some hard puzzles in a game. Good graphics aren´t that import but I´d see it as a bonus.
One of my favorite genres are RPGs.

Originally posted by Colin I agree with you 100% I just love games that you can go back and can change something slightly or do everything different all together. I guess that is why I like simulator titles so much...and RPGs, too. Addictiveness needs to be a factor. If I'm not really into the game, I'm probably not enjoying it as much as I should be.

Posts: 238/5814 Gameplay and replay value. I want the game to play well and I want there to be a lot of unlockables or optional secrets if at all possible... although some RPG's are linear but still extremely fun so that's not always a definite.
| Music would probably be one of my secondary preferences. Kattwah |

| I want a balance, but in order for me to like the game, I have to be able to play the game... so gameplay over everything else. Next, level design. Because as much fun as exploiting glitches are, they shouldnt be there in the first place. Followed by a balance of Music and Graphics... it needs to be appealing to two more of my senses Then storyline... eh... it would be higher, but some games just dont NEED a storyline. Replay value is a must in every game though... that just means I love it enough to play it again and again Yoshi Dude |
Posts: 138/1408 Gameplay and good control above all else. I can't stand games where the sole challenge is dealing with frustrating controls.
| Graphics are a bit important too. I'd much rather have fun gameplay than superior graphics.. but games that have a lot of darkness are ruined for me. Banjo-Tooie and Metroid Prime 2 are good examples. except other people have told me darkness in those games was never a problem. It's probably just me. The graphics in FFVIII really drove me nuts too. I couldn't stand looking at the choppy people. I hate that game for many reasons, though, so I can't say if the graphics would've ruined it for me otherwise. I really don't care about storyline. Saving the princess from the castle is enough for me. Tatrion |

Posts: 128/-7750 I like Final fantasy games because the story line and the battle system. Graphics are not my specialty. I really don't care about graphics that much. Action games I like is the story line sometimes and mostly the killing and the action to it. I love shooting at people in action games and plus the gore in the game. I sometime like multiplayer in action games because you play with other people around the world or US. Thats what I like part about games. | Thexare |
Posts: 49/1104 Gameplay and good, fitting music are most important to me. Sound effects don't bother me much, and the story's only important in some games. | Pasgeti_; |

Posts: 97/2405 I want the game to be fun. Gameplay matters to me the most.
| It could be the shittiest looking game but if it is fun to play then it is worth my time. Oh and good/decent music. Because bad music in a game is like being raped through the ear. This is a long thread. Click here to view it. | |
