This is totally sweet. Man, I've been out of the loop. I didn't even know about optomon doing music for it until just now...

This ought to be a good one, Bloodmoon quality.

As for you, optomon, the texture of your music sounds very familiar. Something like Gargoyles Quest 2 and something else on the tip of my brain.

There are people out there whole still give a shit about this lame debate? Does it really matter in the end? You all know Arthur Dent will doom us all.

Allright everyone, here's a beta version of the complete soundtrack for Castlvevania: Chorus of Mysteries. One thing that's missing is a theme for the game's intro. I'll probably add a few more measures to some of the songs too.

Track 1 : Standard Boss

Track 2 : Castle Entrance

Track 3 : Royal Chessboard

Track 4 : Top of Olrox Palace

Track 5 : Olrox Quarters

Track 6 : The Pit

Track 7 : Courtyard

Track 8 : Special Boss

Track 9 : Atop the Clock Tower

Track 10 : Ending Theme

Track 11 : Beta Clock Tower Theme

Track 12 : Game complete, this or #11 I might replace with a proper intro theme

Track 13 : Stage complete

Track 14 : Dead!

Track 15 : Game Over

This is the ips. Apply the ips to Castlevania.nsf

I am very close to finishing this games soundtrack. I just finished sequencing the ending theme. I have about two or three minor tracks left.

I'm really pressing for this game to be something truly special seeing as it might be my one chance to have enough time to work on a game this much. I've been trying really hard to change some of the enemy behavior. I've found some very particular things, like alter their speed and how many come on the screen at once or how many points they're worth. And I JUST discovered where the data is stored for the number of hits an enemy takes. Wow, this looks as if it could lead to possibly making normal enemies into bosses and vice versa...

I'm documented a ton of crap on how to crack particular data in Castlevania. I'll likely release it as a text document sometime later.

I like the chess GFX, one of the most impresive. Also if you look at the main chara, he looks alittle like snake(red though).

I'm working on it when I have time, Between work and my lady, I'm usually booked. It will get done though, don't worry.

Hey that was a cool idea putting Olrox in the place of the Monster. Is this project finished?

Eh, I've been there already. The way I see it though is that I'm still going to be releasing a version of it with the normal pallete (I plan on actually getting this put on an NES cart) so if someone wants to come in my thread and give me crap about it they can bite me, and if it starts any serious trouble like last time the debate came up in a thread about one of my hacks I'll just get the staff involved. That whole debate just starts a 3 page off-topic arguement.

This looks good. I'd love to play it someday.

The other version I'm thinking of releasing will be one where I rework the GFX to work with a custom pallete, I just think it would be kind of fun to do.

Expect a lot of flaming in your general direction

Those Palletes are subject to change, and actually there's a very good chance they will. I really don't want to use gradients of one color if I don't have to so after I'm done spriting everything I'm going to experiment with color combinations, it's just easier for me to work with a close gradient when I only have 3 colors to work with for some reason.

**Edit**
I forgot about the other reason why I replied. When everything is all finished, I'm going to release multiple versions of the hack. I've talked to people that have been pretty turned off by Castlevania's difficulty, so I'm going to release a normal version and an easy version. The easy version will start you with the maximum amount of lives possible, and all enemies will only do one bar of damage. The other version I'm thinking of releasing will be one where I rework the GFX to work with a custom pallete, I just think it would be kind of fun to do.

I made the lighter palette for the green sprites more pale when I was test playing, and it looked better to me. I especially love the ghost.

I was fishing through the rom yesterday, and found ways to create new rooms and control their sizes, with some limitations. I''ve discovered a few things on enemies too, so expect something from that.

The only thing I've not liked is the enemies using the green pallete. I don't like their outline being a close enough shade to their other colros. If you're not wanting to use black, perhaps a brown? just my opinion

Everything is pure sweet though~

Thanks! IGA probably would hate me just because I decided to involve a DeNasty in a Castlevania story line again... well that and I'm sure all of Konami wouldn't be too happy with the whole rom hacking thing. You can get my other CV hack here: http://80snostalgia.0nyx.com

Here's some updates:

I posted this over in the General Screenshot thread, but I figured that I might as well keep everything together here. As far as progress, I'm probably about 25%-50% done with GFX, optomon is still working on the music and doing a great job, and tonight I'm going to start working on level design. I'm going to focus on the levels for now, untill I finish them. After those are done, I'm going to hop back onto spriting everything and try to figure out how to make "Dracula" the boss for level 5 and make Death the last boss. This hack is actually coming very close to completion, so I'm pretty excited.

Yo Dr. Mario, I love your hacks & the way you care about not meddling around too much in the storylines of the series. IGA probably hates you , but this is what CV once was about, innit?
Say, where can I download your hacks? Couldn't find the place...

What do you mean? You download the .nsf file of Castlevania from Zophars. You download the .ips file provided by Optomon. You use an ips program to patch the .ips to the .nsf file. You can then listen to the new music using WinAmp..provided you have the plugins to play .nsf's.

By then way, I love track 5 and 7. I also loved track 8, as soon as you mentioned it was from Castlevania 2, I quickly dusted of the game. I never really liked Castlevania 2, but I guess a simple excuse was all I needed to play through it.

Great work Optomon. You too Dr.Mario.
