They both look kinda nice... the only problem is, the second one especially doesn't look very much like it'd fit in Mario.

I actually like the first one better than the second... it looks like it'd fit in LttP quite well. Still doesn't look very much like it'd fit for Mario, but... it's not bad by any stretch.

Actually, I haven't. Most of my attempts at pixel art come out horrible.

I think I saw that tree in Zelda.

Well, as I said before, this was based on a tree from Oracle of Seasons. Since my pixel art skills are so hit-or-miss, I chose to use an existing tree as a base rather than drawing a new one from scratch. At this point, though, I might tweak it to look a little more original.

Yeah. That's what I thought going in to this. "Dude, that is way more Zelda than Mario. It looks almost exactly like the trees in LttP."

The shading looks great and very marioish. I think put the shade on the trunk to the left or right of it and dim it down a bit. Other than that it is very good.

Thanks for the input. I've decided to redraw the tree a little smaller, and get rid of the highlight on the trunk. This freed up an extra color in the palette, so I added another shade of green (which I used mostly for smoothing out the outline). Here's the improved version.

(Looking at it now, I should probably add a little more shadow on the trunk.)

It could still use some work, but I like this one a lot better. Thoughts?

the biggest thing that bothers me is the bright shade on the trunk [seems out of place with the above part of the tree being dark] and the incosistencies with the pixel width around the outline, and the roughness of the black lines in general, the top seems very sketchy compared to the bottom. the shading on the trunk in general seems very off.

Very nice Tree, I could imagine that in a SMW game, good job overall!

Long story short... for my SMW hack, I needed a map with a large tree in the middle of it. I started with a tree from The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, scaled to 200% normal size, and tried to smooth it out while adding something of a Mario spin to it. It could still use some work (lots, in fact), but here it is, for what it's worth.

Any and all criticism welcome.
