It seems Microsoft has some good video's for download concerning C#, so I might watch them soon. I'm amazed, I have to say, that Microsoft finally made something free for once that is worth downloading. If this keeps up, I'd have to say I might not resent them so much...

Do what I did when I was younger and go to the local library. Run a search on books for C programming. Or C++ programming. Use words like introduction, beginner, primer, etc. You're almost guaranteed to find something if the library is of a decent size. Barring that, buy a book on it. Barnes and Noble and Borders will also definitely have books on it. |

if your using Visual Studio Express 2005, why not try something like C# or VB, atleast then you dont usually have to screw around with api's or anything like that.. |

Its gonna take a while until your up to the level where you can handle MFC or any other APIs. Well i shouldn't think that the core ideas of C++ aren't too hard though. Get yourself a beginners book on the language and go through that first. These days they can actually teach you all the core ideas of C++. Oh and it also helps if you read up on Object Orientated Programming as this can really help the usage and layout of your code (god knows how much one book I own on that helped me) .
EDIT: Don't bother with learning C if you want C++ otherwise you may get confused (due to the differences caused by OOP) |

Sorry if I said anything to imply that, but thats what I meant. I want to learn the basics of this language, but if nobody is offering to teach me then I will try the Borland compiler, like you suggested, to learn those basics first. But all in all, I'm asking for someone who is willing to help me learn the C language, preferrably in C++.
And any attempt will go with rewards. I've offered a few things, including the following: - Be a part of my team for working on my projects (See website) - Become a beta tester for those projects - Be one of the first to play the games Feel free to heckle my over eagerness. These projects have had lots of planning, and now that I've had time to figure the shit out, they'll come to life soon enough, with or without "Being realistic". The goes I set for myself are realistic and within my capability of doing them. All I need is to learn this language... EDIT: I could read the documents for hours, but nothing helps one learn better than experience. |

Numero uno, if you're stuck on Windows, I'd suggest a Borland compiler...
And if you're looking to just jump up and program an editor, then I don't think any body will 'mentor' you, you got to start with the basics first. Not to even mention I haven't even touched any GUI with C++ yet, and I am somewhat knowledgable about the language. |

Well, hello people. I've been meaning to ask this for a while, but I need someone to help teach me C++. I've never learned any C language before, and I don't know what I'm doing, really. I have the Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions from Microsoft (One of their few FREE products), but I lack a proper tutorial to guide me on learning this language.
Mainly, because most C++ tutorials assume you know something about the C language. If anyone is interested and would lend a hand, any help would be appreciated. It's just that trying to follow those tutorials and use the Express Edition is hard to follow... |
