Thank's I hope this helps. Well, it should, any information is good information

I was hoping to do some work with Shining Force I and II. I've done some interesting little alterations with memory including letting Bowie walk through walls allowing him to skip parts of the story completely XD.

Anyway, thanks again.

From what I've seen, the Sonic scene is indeed the most advanced Genesis hacking scene - hell, there are accurate disassemblies of Sonic 1 and 2 in existence, and there has been heavy ASM hacking. However, information on the rest of the Genesis games seems to be much more sparse, although it's being found that many (but not all) games do have their music in a similar format to that used in the Sonic games.

Here's some general Genesis documentation, more useful for doing your own programming than hacking, however:

GENESIS Technical Overview (note: there are known to be mistakes in this documentation, but it's definitely thorough)
Sega Genesis / MegaDrive Information
Kaneda's ConsoleDev (tools and information)

And also some general Genesis development forums where you might be able to get further help:
Devega
SegaXtreme Genesis/SCD/32x Dev
Eidolon's Inn - The Tavern

I did accidently run into this huge document for development during a google frenzy once. Dated 1995. Other than that, Zophar.net is my only bet

Damn, I almost hoped that it was because it was so complex, at least that would mean someone was working on it.

That really sucks. I mean there were a ton of good games for the Genesis. Especially the RPGs.

Well I'm still looking for ANY information if anyone has any. You know, the kind of stuff like a 10 year old tutorial you tossed in a folder labeled "junk" way back in the day that you could send my way.

Like you said, lack of interest. Which in turn means lack of utilities and documentation. A shame, really

I was just wondering if I'm totally blind or is the Genesis/Megadrive severely underdocumented and not worked on almost at all as far as hacking goes. In fact the only genesis hacking scene that seems to be even remotely progressed is Sonic due to a huge fan base.

Is the Genesis just that complex that utilities, debuggers and the like can't be made for it, or is it just that noone cares about it. I mean the console did have quite alot of good games.

Anyway I'm really interested in working on it but I can't find any resources. So anything anyone knows about it as far as tutorials and tools go would be good, or an explanation as to why I can't find any or why there are none if that is the case.
