Yup. With this editor, you can make courses with no ROM present. As for dumping the Expansion Kit, you would have to have the ROM(s), an emulator, and a controller at hand all time. This editor only requires a USB flash drive.

I think he was assuming that the track editor from the DD one would qualify as the same thing as your current one, which is... yeah. I don't think I really need to say what that is.

That screenshot looks really cool. Is it going to allow you to make courses without having a ROM loaded? I think I remember you mentioning it was possible, and the screenshot would seem to imply it, but... I don't remember for sure.

Well, it isn't available, as Yoronosuku said, so that's one good reason to not be releasing it right now. And there are no plans for charging. Where in the world did you get that idea?

You've been very inconsiderate, Strangler. Why question what project someone else has chosen to undertake? The heavens have seen their fair share of Super Mario Bros. mods. Why don't you go ask what's the point in making another one?

The truth is, the Expansion Kit cannot be emulated by consumers at this time and the ROM features many abilities for tracks that the Expansion Kit does not. Add a better interface with more options and mouse control, and you have some very hefty reasons why to create an F-Zero X editor.

Attached to this post is an image of the Beta 3.0 release of the editor (which is not available to the public, so don't request it). Beta 3.0 is almost identical to the Public Release 1.0, which will be hitting internet shelves on June 21.

The 64DD had 7 games (10 if you count each Mario Paint section seperate) according to GameFAQs. The Sega CD had 15 games beginning with the letter B (again, according to GameFAQs). Does this NOT tell you something? Add to that the fact that the Sega CD was actually produced outside of Japan, and had at least a couple moderately recognizable games (Sonic CD, both Ecco games)... Yeah.

And I think the answer to that question would be "no".

ok seems strange thuogh.

anyway is anyone working on a wipeout64 track editor. that game was mad fast, making f zero x look slow.

what is it with you and the DD? Your so obsesssed, you have about 4 threads on it. Just accept the fact that DD emulation to this point is non-existant..

what did the sega cd do besides sonic cd? it had nothing to offer less so than the dd.

Okay, let's consider how long it took to go from emulating the Genesis by itself to emulating the Sega CD... Now apply it to the N64. And, adding to that, the Sega CD actually did stuff... the DD was never very popular, even in Japan.

Moreover, it's far more useful to create a track editor that doesn't rely on such... risky emulation. Especially since N64 emulation in general is FAR from perfect.

I dont think you realise that the editor which is being developed is FAR, FAR more capable and developed than the one Nintendo made.

Someone's coding an amazing track editor for everyone to use, and you're complaining.

Okay no...the reason the DD software has not been dumped, if it even hasn't (I'm actualy just a little bit surprised...) is/would be because no one specifically designed a software dumping hardware for the unit. That makes sense because its obscurity and lack of over-all popularity. It is because of this that interest for it most likely never arose in the first place.
