That title screen is absolutely HORRID... I almost threw up upon seeing it, literally. (Though being sick anyway doesn't help.)
Your graphics look alright, however. Your palettes leave something to be desired, though. I didn't look at all of them... since, well, I don't feel like being bombarded with popups. |

Whoa whoa whoa guys, I made sure that everything flows together smoothly. The grass in the green level or whatever you call it DOES connect smoothly (I made sure of that), and you walk BEHIND it, so it's pretty cool. And with the mist and animated rain in the background, the level looks even cooler. I'm actually trying to get animations in every level to spice it up a bit. Plus every level has a different BG, so it's hard to rip and make up new stuff that works together with new FG graphics. And the level design takes forever(2 days per level), and the graphic making (1 day per level), so you can expect to see some sweet graphics with awesome level design. |

It looks a bit like you're trying to put forth some effort. Is it worth a try? Sure.
The only problem I can honestly point out is the rips don't seem to collaborate well. Blood and pixelated foregrounds don't exactly fit the semi-realistic backgrounds. Maybe if it had more of a mario-esque quality to it, people would find it more appealing. Other than that, I don't see any HUGE problem with it. Just keep at it! |

Speaking from the position of someone whose position actually matters on the issue (exempting any other staff who posted before me) I really don't see an issue with what Alastor/Blisseh has posted in this thread. I mean, sure, he is notorious for his lack of tact but it's not like he's completely lambasting the poor guy. Now can we please drop the subject? I'll gladly discuss the finer points through AIM, MSN, or PM if anyone wants, but let's get this thread back on track. |

Nah nah, constructive criticism is cool man. That blood level isn't going to be released in the demo. Actually, it's a part of my "Haunted World" that is in the works. Oh yeah, those graphics are not all rips..........well, a lot are, but whatever. |

How about you all stop complaining about Alastor and actually get some taste? The only even decent looking pic in the bunch is the lower right one, and it's mostly negated by all the poorly done blood. |

The theme doesn't work, and some of the palette choices are bad, though not so much in the "horrible clashing" way as the "wrong shades" way. Back to Shot 2, the castle tiles don't work together, period. The background and font on the title screen are far too dark and blend in to the background too well. The Banzai Bill sucks. Too much contrast in shot 4 between the bright orange and the dark brown. And while there's no other complaints I have about it, what the hell is Shot 5 supposed to be? I'd put it in the Meh zone, roughly 4-6 out of 10. Banal, perhaps, but doesn't seem to be an unplayable wreck. Touch up the palettes, change some of your tile choices, and consider a switch to a more fitting theme. And of course, the level design can't be neglected. Still, at least it looks like it could be improved. |

Why does no one mention the tile errors? Look at the tile errors... There's rarely any transition, and especially in the forest shot where the mist juts in and out. That'd be the worst part, IMO.
And gah, people are right about Mario violence. The Banzai Bill looks terrible especially because the blood not only has no shading but it is splattered in an awful, ugly fashion. No, not ugly like Doom. Ugly like MS Paint sprite comics. If anything, there should be a hack about people like you who mess up Super Mario World and how Mario is out for revenge on your sorry asses. And Ghost, if you really care about hacks that Alastor made that are special... check out Mario's return. Now that's a decent hack. |
