Hey it's me again... I'm triying to fix the wrong palettes... Is it really impossible to change palettes 0-3 without having problems when they're shown?

The only thing I don't like is the pink island in the middle. Other than that, it's good. I'm terrible at OW editing... Your's is better than mine, actually. All my overworlds suck.... *sigh*.....

Thx for the advices... I'm really busy with the school now, I will fix all the errors as soon as I can.

By the way... No that wasn't meant to be the desert nor the ashlands... It was just the muddled screen I saw when I played the game... The real OW looks like that ==>[attachment]

Well... maybe they don't look like a desert and an ashland anyway ehehe...

See ya

If it IS an ash world... I'd think a grayish-brown color would work well... Seriously, the palette there NOW just burns. :\

Though the fact I'm looking at it on a crap monitor doesn't really help...

I think that was meant as the ash world, not the desert.

Basically, what's been said before are your answers. Open the OW GFX in a level (or tile editor *shudder*) and edit them, same with palettes (there's different palettes/shades.) By the way, that doesn't look like a desert at all...

Question 1: Unfortunetly, there's not much you can do about this, except not using Palette 0-3 in the overworld. What you CAN do is screw around with the overworld palettes so that Palette 5 is another usable ground palette, like I did. The only downside is that the place where the cliffs meet the water will have less contrast due to having to use Palette 7, but if you're really strapped for land, go for it.

Question 2: Enable custom palettes for the levels, and fix everything. That should put a stop to the nonsense.

Question 3: Actually, it does work very similar to inserting ExGFX into levels. Only catch is, you'll have to use a pipe or a star to enter the area with the ExGFX; the GFX files won't be changed if you use an exit tile.

Question 4: If you're talking about graphics, it's as easy as using ExGFX. You edit them in a similar fashion as you do to edit level GFX.

In the color palettes, some colors are hardcored (you can't change them, even if you wanted to), some are used for a lot of different things (For instance, the white in the overworld may also be used for the white in mario's eyes...)

Most colors, however, can be changed w/ no effect on anything else in the game.

In levels, even if you enable custom palette, tsome are used for 1 or more things
(it will only change in the level, though)
In 1 of my levels, I was making the bushes and the moles blue, and part of Mario was blue. (Only changed in that level) ALso, the Mario next to the life counter (at the top of the screen) was blue...

My advice....
Go into another level, load the OW GFX, change the palette for whatever it is to different colors that you aren't already using in the OW and then go back and change that color.

Trial-and-Error........

Hi everyone... I'm Paul from Switzerland.... I'm trying to create my own hack on SMW, I'm a newbie to hacking ROMs and I found some problems here and there. So I decided to post here my questions hoping that someone would be so kind to help me...
Here we are:

1.- I've changed the OW palette in order to create an "Ash Land" and a "Candy Island", turning the colors to a scale of gray for the first one and pink/yellowish for the second one. I've also created a desert area... The problem is: all this stuff looks normal in LM, but when i try to play the game it appears all muddled and the colors change by themselves!! I noticed also that they kinda... 'gleam' when an event appens, when a path is shown and so... What shall I do to preventing this?

2.- Other thing that happened because of the colors change: some of the levels around the world (not specifically on candy island) have also changed their palette following the colors of the overworld... Well... that's what i wanted to happen for the candy island levels (i did not change their palette though) but this change affected ALL the levels which had the same palette (to give an exemple: My Yoshi's House turned to pink...). What can I do?

3.- I've looked around to find some custom palettes to put onto the OW, I mean also 16X16 stuff like the pyramid that i've seen in Demoworld 3 besides palmtrees and more else, but i didn't find anything... Could anyone tell me where can I find those things and how can I put them in the OW? Does it work the same way as the ExGFX inserting in levels? And can I edit them just like I edit the palette in the levels?

4.- I'd like to put into the levels some sprites from other games and also editing them... What's the simplest way to do that?

Thx a lot... and sorry if my questions are dumb but this ROM hacking is driving me crazy

oh and sorry for my bad english

P.S. I attach a pix to give you an idea of what it looks like the mess in the desert...
