i downloaded a mkv file ages ago and there was no way to get it to work
mkv is a crappy format that doesnt work for most people from what ive gathered, so try to find the file in a better format |

If VLC doesn't play it, I'd suggest you look elsewhere for your downloads. |

That was actually the first thing I downloaded, only to have it not work. Maybe I'm not using it right? All I've done is download it and run the program... |

I´d recommend Lazy man's MKV since that´s the one I´m using. It playes the files perfectly.

Yeah, I went to the format's website, didn't really do anything. I think I need to do something with the codecs other than just using the install program, but I don't know what.
edit: not sure how I missed the actual player downloading...if that doesn't work, then I guess it's a problem with the file itself. |

So I downloaded some subbed anime in .mkv format, and though I've downloaded codecs that promise to make things like that work, they don't seem to, having tried DivX, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, and Realplayer to play them. Maybe installing the codec packs doesn't do everything that needs to be done. I can hear the sound and see the subs, but that's it. Help? |
