Once again, something I've already posted.
Personally found it funny.

Meh. I used to suggest people switch to Firefox, but this was prior to it becoming popular and as well known as it now is.
Now I don't mind so much. People are aware of it, and a lot of people are happy using it, that's all I wanted. I don't really care for market dominance so much I think I heard something recent about IE7 being nearly ready or something... nevermind you can download a beta

Simple solutions to browser-ist web pages include using Proxomitron to edit the user agent string and Firefox's User Agent Switcher extension. Though I find sites that do this are rarely worth the time to read anyway.

The point is if you don't like the interface, you can change it. It reads the bad code perfectly well and thus does not discourage it. And then it being more bloated and more prone to freezing on lower machines (or during things pointlessly system-intensive) is, well. How could you possibly not know what that means? Not "what the hell does that mean", rather "what the hell are you talking about". My experience has always been that a given piece of code is valid and works in every browser except IE, or isn't valid and doesn't work in any browser. It's about 7MB, hardly bloated, and has never frozen even on an old P200 with Win98 and 16MB of RAM I have laying around. The closest was a crash bug that occurred every now and then in an older version when loading one specific web page.

No matter how many people switch from browser to browser, there will always be a LOT of people with IE, meaning a lot of websites will still completely ignore standards and go with that. And personally, I think I'd prefer to be able to still read them. Oh, and dealing with websites that kick you off for not using FF... There are a bunch that already do that for IE. What's the difference?

I stick with FF. IE is loaded with adware and viruses on my computer, but none of these seem to affect FF. As for freezing? Never happened to me.

Originally posted by Skydude Yeah, but it could potentially hurt you. Due to the fact that IE is parallel with the Windows system, spyware is more likely to get into your computer, and your computer is more likely to become infected by viruses due to exploits. Originally posted by Yoshi Dude Of course there are. I just haven't seen many [annoying ones] out there.

I like FF. I used IE forever until a few months ago, when I decided to give FF a try because people don't know the difference between a good layout and a bad layout. Adblock is my best friend.
FF is nicer for me in that it allows for custom schemes, but what I like the best is tabs. That's something I never had for so long, and it's fantastic. FANTASTIC. I love tabs. But I still have to use IE when I'm on my dad's computer (which is often), so I use both.

I've seriously never had any real problems with IE, and therefore there's no reason to switch. Simple as that. I'm not going to say it's better, because on a number of measures it's probably not.
But...it works fine for me, so I see no reason to switch. Not like it hurts you for me to use IE

Posts: 939/1408 On topic (yeah, seriously): That wasn't funny. That wasn't anything. Or did I just miss the brilliance? | Originally posted by asdfBecause there are no anti-FF elitists, right? As if that will have any bearing on anything. If you think what you're using is a better browser, then use it, and stop caring about what anyone else thinks. Now if only I could send that message to the entire internet. I use Firefox because of Adblock, and because my mom uses Safari with all these custom preferences that drive me nuts. I'll definitely switch to Safari when I get my own computer; it performs much better. Thoughtless |

| I really am not a fanboy of FF. I use it. It works for me. And to each his own. Skydude |
Posts: 2480/2607 Yeah, I really dislike the FF elitism cult that's spawned around it. IE works fine for me, and I did download FF, since it's recommended for coding for a class I'm taking this quarter, but my scrollbar doesn't work in it, the google toolbar doesn't work as I'd like it, and a couple other minor issues. | Forte.EXE |
Posts: 460/1503 I never use Fire Fox anymore, cause it somehow no longer is supported by my computer.... plus not to mention being shot away by FF users when I onced joked about not owning FF.... | HyperHacker |
Posts: 1848/5072 Hehe, that is pretty funny. The whole browser war thing is getting ridiculous though. The FF fanboys are acting like 12-year-olds, the Opera fanboys are spreading all manner of "myths" that are just plain false about FF, and the IE fanboys... come to think of it I haven't seen them in a while. | Deleted User |

Posts: 2192/4077 Personally, I use Firefox, but I'm comtemplating switching to Opera, due to the recent...well...idiocy surrounding Firefox users. Sure, it is a better browser, but they're getting so damn pushy that they're starting to look worse. Just take a look at what they're trying to do with this. Not only is that an immature and/or "violent" plan, but it's not going to work. Odds are, most of those sites are going to be lame sites run by elitists or some other treacherous person. Most people would probably just not go back to the site after being shot away for not having Firefox. | Apophis |
