Blech... just opened one up in Cool Edit 2000 and there's maybe 15 seconds of audio. Can I say that I'm dropping the Banvil (sm) on the whole album?

This is purely a guess, but try opening one of the songs in Goldwave (just to use that program as an example), and provided it loads, save the song into a different folder. Then, try playing the song you just saved, and see if it worked. I know one song I downloaded from Shareaza while ago got labelled as being corrupt, so I tried opening it in Goldwave, saved it, and it worked perfectly afterwards.

There's also an option in the program to batch convert a given folder, so provided testing that method with one song works, you could very well just set the whole folder to convert at once, and find something else to do while it's busy. However, if you don't have Goldwave (and even if you were to download it, there's a limitation of something like 3000 operations from the date you install the program), you could also try foobar, with the appropriate plugin, or any other music conversion software you may have.

I had the exact same problem as this with a bunch of songs I downloaded with uTorrent a week or so ago now, and although I didn't think to try resaving one with Goldwave, you can give it a try and see if it works

Well you just compare the file info boxes. They all look different.

BSD: Well, the RIAA wouldn't have much incentive to fake THIS band's work. They're pretty obscure.

HH: They will play (at some indeterminate point in the file), but all it says in the info is the file size. Nothing else that other MP3's would have.

They could very well be fakes set up by the RIAA . But the really stupid part is WMP trying to depend on the file extension

Play them in Winamp and view the file properties, it should tell you something.

So there's a bunch of MP3's I downloaded off of Soulseek, only they're not. The extension's .mp3, but the tooltip info shows Windows can't recognize anything about them (song length, ID3 tags, etc.). iTunes won't recognize them, and Windows Media Player said the format doesn't match the extension. How could I figure out what it should be and fix them?
