TEH SUN IS EVAL!!1one!

I have white skin (not pale white, just regular white.) and am therefore very susceptible to sunburns. Last time I got burned, around July 2002, I was on the beach. Using SPF 45 sunblock, I just decided to lie on one of them floaty mattresses for about three hours.

My whole body was lobster red and my skin was so sensitive I couldn't even sleep normally, I had to lie down sideways. It was horrible, I was shedding for two months. Two months, dammit! I've never gone to the beach since.

Only time I got sun burnt was when I was biking all the day on some island. I didn't build up a tan so I got sun burnt.

And it was hardly a severe burn, it didn't hurt much just felt... sensetive where the burn was.

Even with my lifestyle, I don't need much to build up a tan. XD If I lived in Florida, I probably would look rather dark most of the year. Which is unusual for a Swede...

I burn reasonably easy, but I try to spend some time in the daylight every day, as it's a good way to get your seratonin and such up.

It's fairly apparent that my depression is linked to the seasons and not enough daylight, and it's now becoming wintery.... I might need to find other sources of light.

I'm fairly tanned, and I don't get much of a sunburn, even if I were to stay out in the sun all day... unless I'm sitting under a cool shady tree.

Sun and I, we don't mix. Five minutes of hot sun on me and I'm burnt crisp. This is largely due to my acne medication blindingly white and pasty skin.

Fixed to apply to me.

Well, that's for me as well. I'm blindingly white and even more succeptable because of acne medicine.

I haven't tanned since I was a little kid. Those were the days.

I don't seem to burn/tan very well, but my brother sure does. He even got a really bad sunburn just from going to school.

I remember after the summer, the top half of my arm was tan and the bottom was very pale.

I have a very pale complexion. I'm more of a very light gray than a tan; actually, most of the time, the levels of red and green in my skin are roughly equal. But I never sunburn

Hell, I never tan, either

Sunblock is as responsible for skin cancer as antidepressants are for suicide (somewhat less so, but that's a bit more complicated topic.) Basically, people who don't use them as they shoud are often the people at the greatest risk for something really bad happening. It's known in econometrics as the "third variable problem" where none of the measured instruments finds a good correlation, but something else, tangible or not, serves to explain it rather well.

There is no healthy amount of sunlight for me.

But I'd have to disagree with him, sunblock isn't carcinogenic, it's associated with it because it's probably often misused (not enough, not often enough).

Uh.... I'm not sure about the second part of what he's said, but they are starting to wonder if the UV rays blocked by sunscreens are the ones that need to be blocked, or not, from what I last heard (source unknown sorry)

I'm not sure they're still sure which ones have been linked to cancer or not.

The saturated and unsaturated fats thing I certainly disagree with, mostly cause of a lot of stuff I've read by Dr John Tickell at the recommendation of a doctor friend in Melbourne.

I'm going to fence-sit on the idea of sun exposure, as there ARE significant benefits to getting enough sunlight. I thnk the key here is how MUCH sun.

Whats benificial is to gradualy build up your sun exposure so that you build up a natural tan over a period of time without burning and maintain it. A diet rich in saturated fats is helpful and diets rich in polyunsaturated fats is harmful.
