Could be a stupid bot.

Yeah, a visual field in the registration process would be helpful. Because I'm positive a number of these advertisers are bots.

You'd think we would have a captcha field in place by now. Guess not. (shrug)

And seeing as every ad looks to be badly C&P'ed, I'm guessing human. Bots would be smart enough to not copy the quote marks.

Maybe I should just post "ADVERTISEMENTS WELCOME " on the front page.

I mean, it'd have about the same effect.

DEAR SPAMMERS: Please stop sending me ads for your penis-enlargement products and Russian mail-order brides, as they're really annoying and don't appeal to me anyway. Thanks a bunch!

There, that oughta slow 'em down a bit.

If they were bots they wouldn't have such great names, jk, [i.e. forgot123 or something].

And just for the record Shyguy, I'm a drummer, and that sound effect is called a "rimshot." [even though the rimshot technique is not used in it. ]

Advertisers are stupid, do they ACTUALLY think they will succeed after the second time?

I think they are not bots. But the stuff IN their posts are probably pre-written.

And HyperMackerel, no, they DON'T move elsewhere, the same one registered twice, as different gay names.

They probably could just search for links to *reply.php and similar, but I think it's just people paid to do it. They don't care if they get banned, they just come to post one ad and move on to wherever else.

In case of SKYNET, I would just. Well.

Well, seeing as most of the advertisements appear to be in appropriate forums, I'd have to say that either it's a real person or some SKYNET-level AI. In which case we're all screwed.

I'd always assumed they were most likely bots anyways.
So some advertiser there made a bot for Acmlmboard's?

Damn... it's not unlikely actually. Considering that many advertisers share a pattern.

Would they need to make one specifically for Acmlmboards, or just make bots that search for registration and post functions? They make bots that search the web for other things (regardless of back end software)... why not one that searches for forum registration and posting?

I thought it that there'd be "security in obscurity" originally, but if I think about all the bot is required to do, I don't know if obscurity saves us.

Well, Some might be people... we never know these things...

And people might too read this. Especially because it has "(Attention Advertisers)".

Just give this a chance and see if we don't mark half as many Advertising Scumbags. Sheesh, how many are we up to now?

You know, I don't think they care if they're wanted or not, that's why they're advertisers . Go ahead, try calling up comcast and telling them "Quit showing commercials" and see how they laugh at you.

Acmlm's Board is not the place for scams, or advertisements of products. We got plenty on the bottom of the page! *badum keesh*

But seriously. If you want to advertise, pick somewhere else but here. You'll easily get yourself banned Jonny-on-the-spot if you advertise anywhere on the board.

They get their kicks outta that.
