I hate you because they look awesome. |

I think there's a store about a 30 minute drive away that has carries a lot of EMG-loaded guitars... I'll see about heading up there on some lazy day and checking them out. |

wite: I hate you just for having a Rhoads-styled guitar.
I played with EMG89s (my guitar teacher has them in his guitars), I like the cleans. |

Originally posted by mattp I heard EMG 89s have great distorted tone and awful clean tone. Any thoughts? I've been thinking about upgrading my setup (I play a Jackson RR5, black with gold hardware - I'll get a picture if you want) and I'm just sorta curious about how those pickup perform. Places around here mostly carry Fender and Gibson, so I don't get too many chances to play with EMGs... |

Thanks!
It's not really a design so much as its a transparent white finish so you can see the wood grain. I really like it. |

Heh, "At some point you should buy a real guitar." Guitar Hero is awesome.
That is a sweet guitar you have there, if it was mine I would rather have it solid white instead of white with a design, but hey thats me. |

Mine's a piece of black plastic and electronics that has no strings and plugs into my PS2.
... But that aside, your guitar is indeed very awesome. |

Wow! You're guitar is really nice. Better then mine. Mine's a piece of crap. Oh well. It's good enough for beginners I guess. |

Looks nice, not a fan of the color though. I don't like white guitars, or guitars with that awkward spikey shape. Hopefully it doesn't sound like a BC Rich. Harhar.
I play bass myself, an Epiphone. I love it to death, it was my Grandpa's. |

Yeah, I actually forgot about Edwards.
Thanks for the history, always a fun read, too. (and seriously, be it LTD or Custom Shop, ESP stuff is always high quality) |

I personally prefer either blank ebony fretboards or an intricate inlay, ala Ken Lawrence or other high profile builders. The small abalone dots are a good compromise in my opinion
The guitar is an Edwards E-FR-120GT. In Japan, where ESP headquarters is, they have three lines of guitars: ESP, Edwards, and Grassroots. ESP is their high end stuff that is all made in the custom shop, like the ESP Custom line in the US. Edwards is their equivalent of our ESP Standard series, and Grassroots are their LTDs. The American LTD F series is basically a watered down version of the Japanese Forest GT series. Just some history for you |

I don't like the way the dots are. (yeah, small personal preference).
Of course, I like the shape of the guitar (looks alot like the ESP F-series), and aside from the fretboard itself, the neck is pretty nice. |

What's wrong with the fretboard?
Soundwise the guitar is perfect. every fret has good intonation and tone with no rattle. |

The old pickups looked horrible seriously.
It looks nice, but I'm not too fond of the frettboard. And out of curiosity, do the 24th fret sound right (I know sometimes it might sound alittle off). |

Here's some instrument porn for you guys
Some before pics: Before I even changed out the pup rings.. Enjoy! The EMG 89s sound absolutely amazing. Best tones I've ever heard. So much more warmth, power, clarity, and versatility than the JB/59 set I had in earlier. |
