1. The Legend of Zelda series (I love all the games)
2. Pokémon Crystal 3. ChronoTrigger 4. Earthbound That's my list. But I must say the LoZ games integrate role-playing and action so well that it doesn't get boring at any time. The graphics in all the LoZ games are really good and the story doesn't get boring. |

Chrono Trigger still has a hold on most of my fond childhood memories, and not many (if any) have captured my imagination, and adoration since then, and it's been a long damn time since it came out. Square's games seemed better when they didn't have unlimited storage space and more powerful hardware to work with. The games had to be good, the tunes had to be catchy, they had to try harder.
The original Suikoden for PSX comes in second though. I love you Gremio! |

I'd have to say Robotrek 'cause it's the only one I played. I never finished it (blasted DeRose) . I really like the fact that Enix thought outside the box on this one. No medieval setting, no magic spells, just robots and wild gadgets. I don't think I'll ever play it again though because I prefer side-scrolling platformers. If Robotrek was a platformer, I'd have sent those Hackers packin' |

Since the bump didn't result in a closing...
I'm going to take the overused route and go for Chrono Trigger. Although the Mario ones are pretty good, too... CT's the main one I've actually gone and beaten multiple times. |

No need to bump a thread that's been dead for a month if all you're going do is play the listing game.

Actually, within the past month, I've found a game I liked better than Final Fantasy V. It's called the 7th Saga. If you can find it, play it
It's quite difficult, so you might be prepared to pay for broken controllers/keyboards/ desks |

Not a fan of Console style RPG's, the majority of the time their combat systems bore me. Main reason i don't like the FF series, besides the whole characters I can't stand thing.
-Baldur's Gate 1 Best RPG Ever. -Baldur's Gate 2 Sequel to the Best RPG ever. -Planescape: Torment Great characters and a cool world, but had a crappy UI and a bunch of bugs. -Tales of Phantasia One of the few Console style RPG's I like, also dont mind ToS, but don't like it as much as ToP. Infinity Engine games rockzorz. |

I'll mention two titles not mentioned here, they are not too famous but very nice choices if you would ask me for recommendations.
- Rud(o)ra no Hihou, a game with one of the most sweet OSTs ever. It was never released outside Japan, but Gideon Zhi made a great English translation for it, also revamped the spell creation system from Katakana to Rômaji (use English or Japanese names in Rômaji to enter spells directly from the menu), so you might want to try out spells like "Cure", "Quake" or "Fast" - adding pre- and suffixes even strengthens the spell power, but also increase the MP usage (and you can only nine of each item with you - giving you more challenge than any game with 99-type-of-each-item systems), although the bosses can be challenging without the right mantras, The graphics rock too, every single enemy and character has its own standing, spell, attacking, getting-hit animation, what is just awesome for an SNES game, plus the graphics are top. My user name and avatar also comes from that game ... - Valkyrie Profile A battle system bible. A game with great uses of good old 2D parallel backgrounds and sprites, though it is not the newest (it was released about 2000/2001 outside Japan, sadly not in Europe) but very nice game, the music KICKS ASS with a huge variety of Motoi Sakuraba's master pieces, having a lot of different characters, a unique time/story system, offering a mass of options with its combo- and turn-based battle system - and adds a huge amount of replay value. Even today I simply fire up my *cough* emulator (anyway I don't have an NTSC PSX or even a PS2) and enjoy some few battles which make me happy after some nasty days ... And the voice acting is supreme, too. Definitively a game to get if you like alternative RPGs, thus also featuring exaggerating damage numbers in the bonus dungeon (which is challenging as well) |
