Dude, Bradley and I went to see this opening night in the pouring rain right after work! XD

It was not bad, I was afraid I would get terribly scared (I hate scary movies, and I hate anything scary especially so at night), but I was actually quite pleased and Bradley liked it okay too!

My friend said it was the worst movie ever made, your thoughts?

That's about the least subtle thing I've ever heard anyone refer to as subtle

I can do a pretty good siren impression. It's a simple vocal exercise that teaches you to smoothly sing through the breaks between registers. This weekend, I was visiting the Sideling Hill tunnel on the abandoned stretch of Pennsylvania turnpike near Breezewood. I did the siren in the maintenance area above the tunnel (basically, an attic that runs its full length) and freaked out one of my friends, who was downstairs and couldn't figure out what the siren was from. The echo down the mile-long tunnel was crucial to the overall effect.

I want to visit Centralia before it's completely collapsed and/or evacuated. I live in central PA, so it would be a doable day trip. When this happens, pictures will follow. (I do have lots of tunnel pictures - and many of them are Silent Hill-ish - but I have to sort and upload them.)

Yeah, her acting was pretty good, but the beginning wasn't her best though.

Has anyone ever been to Centralia, Pensylvannia aka Silent Hill, West Virginia? Heard it has a fire burning in a coal vein below the city like the movie and is a complete ghost town, I wanna go.

Does anyone know where I can get that siren? I wanna play it on the school intercom and see what happens

That's your opinion. :\ I thought the acting was done well from start to finish. Some of the dialog may have been pretty crappy, but you can't blame that on acting.
No, but I can blame "SAAAAAAIIIILEEEENT HIIIIILLLLLLLLLLL! SAAAAAIIIIIILEEEENT HIIIILLLLLLLLL!" on the acting.

She did a better job at acting than I'm sure most kids her age would. It's always funny to see when people rag on kids for their acting. It makes me think of Maddox' articles about how he can draw better than children.

That girl was damn good and freaky when she played the evil side of Alessa.

I seen it yesterday. It was sorta boring, but it was a decent movie. Not a buyer. It could of been better. There was more confersation then action.

I think Pyramid Head trying to get them through the door was the coolest part, really

The end was cool, but not AS cool, I suppose.

Either Pyramid Head or
Spoiler:
Alessa at the end... the barbed wire scene was OFF THE HOOK AWESOME!
were the coolest parts of the movie.

I'm totally going to buy this when it comes out on DVD

I liked it. It started slow and got progressively more intense as the movie went on. Story was interesting, too. The twist at the end was really cool

I'd give it maybe.... 3.5/5?

At least it fit the story. And it was gory. And the CG was awesome.

There IS bad acting, but it's mostly in the very beginning. You sorta forget about it as everything improves once you get to Silent Hill.

I enjoyed the movie very much...the second time around, anyway. The first viewing, I was sorely disappointed.

But seeing it a second time, I enjoyed its good aspects a lot more, and dealt with the things that bothered me. A lot of the bad aspects regarding the story I blame on the studio, though, and not on the screenwriter. Like for example, Sean Bean's character. He wasn't even in the original script, but was put there to have a male lead. Thankfully, the way the movie ends, it looks like this movie will tie in to the sequel, with Bean playing the lead character from Silent Hill 2; I believe that since Avary was forced to write a male character in there, he figured he might as well do something with him. And I figure Pyramid Head was put in there 'cos maybe the filmmakers thought there might not be a sequel, so they'd pack whatever they could in the first movie just in case. That's how I justify it...

As for bad acting...I don't see it. I thought the acting was done rather well.

Personally, I'd have rather had a movie that was just all about freaky shit, and lots of mystery and "WTF is going on?" but that likely wouldn't have sold as well.

But, it's a very good movie nonetheless, both as a video game adaption and as a stand-alone movie. It's definitely the best video game movie out there, in my opinion.

I forgot to mention that I really enjoyed that early "chase into the alley" scene because I thought it was a great video game reference. First off, Rose's actions made sense to me. She was running after what she thought was her daughter, and there was no obvious danger or anything that should have given her pause. Thus, it was not a silly "OMG I'm going to run outside after the killer just banged on the door" sort of plot device. It paralleled the similar scene in the beginning of the first Silent Hill game, right down to the camera shifting overhead, which was a nifty nod to the fans that worked well in the context of a movie because it showed just how closed in and winding the path was. Although I've seen most of the first game (and therefore knew what was going to happen), it was still fun to watch because I wanted to see how it would be portrayed in the movie. I liked the game's creatures better, as they seemed much more creepy and threatening, whereas the tar babies came off as insentient and impersonal, but it was still a good scene. And the movie did a better job at ending it. Hooray for Johnny Cash.

And I'd like to say thank you to the thread for sharing dissenting opinions on this movie in a polite way. Most Silent Hill discussion I've seen elsewhere degrades into mudslinging wankery all too quickly. I think Pyramid Head ought to pay a visit to the IMDB boards.

I liked it

I thought the subtle videogame references were good. I will agree that they got to the town too quickly and too little was shown of that and it was stupidly implausible... Roads don't go there. Except the obviously labelled one. That goes there, but it doesn't count. But eh; the beginning sucked, sure, but everything after that was quite good. And the visual effects were awesome. I can understand fans not liking the stuff being presented so obviously, but eh. There was enough mystery with what wasn't revealed. And the visual effects were awesome.

And the visual effects were awesome.

Except for the molten zombies. They were eh.

I saw it on opening day last week.
I thought it was an average movie, nothing special.
Maybe if they got better actors and a better plot it would have been a good movie.

It did have a few good scenes though.

*Spoiler kinda?*
Favorite scene:
Pyramid Head ripping off that girls skin while she was still alive.
Totally cool

I agree with you Rydain, I noticed all of that too while I watched it, the beginning was kinda jumpy and flew through a couple of things quickly. And the ending flew right over a lot of people's heads, but then again most of the people there were busy talking on their damn phones

But it really was better than I expected, to be honest I was thinking it was going to turn out like other videogame movies like Tomb Raider or Bloodrayne but it was okay. And it had some gore in it so it was naturally more entertaining

One of my favorite scenes was the one in the bathroom with the janitor, so awesome how the bathroom stalls changed. And the ending part with the pissed off little girl was cool too.
