Honestly, I don't care if it causes me cancer. I'd rather enjoy my life and do something rather than sit and do nothing. Plus, when you scrounge for money, just take a Zig Zag paper and roll the tobacco from your cigarette butts.

Money saving suggestion of the year, I swear...

Actually I"ve gone lower than that, Lately I haven't been able to afford ciggarettes, so I've been buying rolling tobacco, and when I can't afford papers, I use lined paper, which is defenitely nasty if you've ever tried it. Ciggarettes are insanely addictive. I've been able to quit drinking and smoking weed with seriously no problems [due to money problems], ciggarettes however, nu-uh. And it's nice to know you'd rather sit around and get cancer than do nothing

I dunno if "trying" is necessarily something you need to have done either to base an opinion on something, but I do think that basing an opinion hastily on others actions is also not great....

I think smoking is one of the worst habits you can take up, but then this opinion is based on not only my own experiences with it, but also those of friends -- friends who have loved it, friends who have been addicted and quit, friends who are addicted and cannot quit. It's taken me a while to come to this opinion, because for a while all my opinion was was... "meh", I didn't care.

But after watching good friends suffer with it, and struggle, I'm more anti-smoking than I was before.

I know I can't stop anybody who ENJOYS smoking, but I like to try to help those who are trying to quit. And I know that I smoke from occasion too... Nobody's perfect. But I guess overall I'm against it, but I'm also completely for a person's right to make their own decisions (and mistakes) and for the most part I stay out of it all I'm the one that will put up with your mood-swings when you quit though

Honestly, I don't think you necessarily have to have tried something to have some opinion about it. You may not be entirely informed on the matter, but in some cases it is possible to be better informed than those who have tried it. I think weed may be one of those cases, based on the "lol weed" culture as it has been dubbed.

I might start, I'm not really sure. Ziff kind of brings up what I would get at though.

It's legal to smoke if you're not quite 18, It's just not legal to buy them I've been smoking since I was 13, still am, I'll be 19 next month. I honestly don't see the point of smoking "socially" unless by socially you mean piss-faced drunk. other than that it just seems like someone's trying to fit in, and that's defenitely not a reason to smoke, that's just a reason to get beat up for being a poser.

do you honestly belive weed has no bad side effects? if so then you fit the "lol weed" stereotype pretty good.

I used to.

I smoked for quite some time before I desided I wanted to quit.

Yeah, it was a nasty habit. I liked it though. Expecially my brand of cigs. Djarum Blacks. But I was smoking them back before they became uber popular because that one girl from the 'Real World' smoked them. You know... the one that cut herself.

Anyways... It was really hard to quite when I was going to school (that's college, not high school. Never smoked in high school). Because the class would be sitting down for a few hours then suddenly you have ten minutes to go and do crap before you're in the studio (broadcasting school) working on your demo or project. Practically everybody got up to go outside and smoke. Some 95% of the school. It was astounding. I am saying this now... Pretty much everybody smokes in the broadcasting field. All those DJ's you hear on the radio, the producers, the news person on TV, the directors... everybody. There are only a few people that I have met in the broadcasting field who do not smoke.

So when you would sit there bored as hell alone in the studio, trying not to smoke... kind of got to you. Hell, my friend who went to the school with me started smoking after joining. I saw a few people like that. It is like there is nothing else to do in broadcasting than to do your spot, drink coffee, and smoke a cigarette.

I am done with all that now though... at least the smoking part.

I only smoke at night, for some reason. I don't have cravings, but I dunno. I'm not addicted. I just feel like it, and that's rare. I'll smoke socially with friends though.

Reading this thread makes me want a cigarette.

*clicks bottom option and goes out for a smoke*

Mind yourself, though, Sky. I started out wanting to try it, to see what it was about, and finding out it wasn't so bad after all. Then I started having a cigarette or two if anyone offered me one while we were drinking. Then it got to the point where I'd occationally buy a pack and smoke a few cigarettes now and then, but still mostly only while drinking. Then everything went bad when I moved north to go to university, started working at a place where loads of people smoked, and thus naturally made me smoke loads more, to the point I'm at today where I smoke regularly every day.

I abhor the fact that my mother and step-dad both smoke but I tried it once or twice. It's not my thing at all. Now I can't even stand being around them because they're always puffing.

You know, honestly, I'm glad that I did have that one cigarette. I still think it's a nasty habit, and lots of negative effects, so I wouldn't ever do it myself. At the same time, though, I feel like I can empathize a bit better with those who smoke. Like I said, I did kinda like it...before, I couldn't really see how anyone ever could. I like understanding people better, and this was a good way to do so without really going against my own beliefs.

I don't smoke. I never will. If you smoke all the time, I would quit. My gramdpa died of smoking, my grandma quit, but she is still affected by years of smoking. Dont smoke.

Horribly surprised in what way? I mean, every message board community is different and it's not like we'll get 1000 people to vote in the poll to make it a decent-sized sample.

*votes for the top option*

Huh. I'm horribly surprised by the results here.

But yeah, no smoking here. It's just ridiculous.

Alright, so it seems I missed social smoker and maybe starting some day. That's really the problem with polls like this...there are a lot of options you don't realize should be there until the poll has been made.

Never have and never will. Besides the fact I don't want to, I've been told by all my family members that do smoke, never smoke, it just makes your life that much harder, once you start, its hard to stop. They all said not to and I havent, those who I've seen smoking have bad health except for a few exceptions. My grandparents have trouble breathing after smoking for about 40 or 50 years.

I also hate the smell of smoke, so it isn't for me.

If you ask me, smoke = bad. I actually find it kinda disgusting. It might have something to do with that many of my friends smoke. Like not all the time, but I've seen it several times. I kinda feel like they've betrayed me, but it's their decision, really. And I know that, I just can't stand to be there when it happens. Makes me kinda sad to think about it. I mean, actually they are starting to kill themselves already.

I've actually heard that every cigarette you smoke makes your life 5 minutes shorter...
