Basically the same as Cheveyo and Dude Man; Translhextion is great because it supports Japanese. (Would be nice if it could support double-byte characters where the first byte is at the end of a line and the last byte is the beginning of the next line, but that's a quibble.)
TLP is nice and easy to use, and Tile Molester supports more formats so I use that when dealing with 8-bit graphics. FCEUXD lets you copy and paste RAM contents, but doesn't offer the speed-up options that NesterJ has, so I use the latter when I need to run the emulator at 60x the speed. Handy when simulating seasons in baseball games and testing the teams' balance! |

Hex: Hex Workshop for general editing, Translhextion for looking up text, Hexecute for editing text.
Emulator: No$GMB for Game Boy, FCEUXD for NES (which I pretty much never hack ), ZSNES and Geiger's SNES9X for (guess what) SNES. Graphics: TLP, YY-CHR, and Tile Molestor. IPS: LIPS. SNES <-> PC: Lunar Address. Game Boy <-> PC: PointerCalc, hacked to not be always on top. Assembler: tniASM for Game Boy, SNESASM for SNES, though I often just write small hacks in Notepad and assemble them manually (especially on Game Boy; I can just type them in No$'s debugger ). Other: Several instances of Notepad. Occasionally I write a small program for one specific task if none of the others can do it. Windows Calculator every now and then. |

Hex Editor: HexWorkshop. I swear by it, its been more than useful in absolutly everything I've needed to do.
Emulator: For SNES, its ZSNES. I've just...grown used to it. For the original GB, I used to swear by REW (and consequently, I still use it for NES emulation....), but ever since VBA came out, its taken care of my Gameboy AND Gameboy Advance needs. I still use REW for NES emulation, which probably isn't the best idea, but it does what I need it to quite nicely so For N64, its Project64, and anything else I just havn't had the need to emulate quite yet. Graphics: Tile Layer Pro, hands down. I've never tryed YY but I've just grown so acustomed to TLP. I grew up using the original Tile Layer on all my hacks and as such, the transition seemed logical. I've never once looked back. IPS: LunarIPS, need I say more? Other useful tools: Notepad, Windows Calculator (still can't do hexidecimal conversions or operations in my head just yet..), Meridian Advance (NSF, SPC, GBS, and GYM? Yes ma'm!), and Super Jukebox (this thing is my best friend, if only it didn't CRASH ON WINDOWS XP EVERY OTHER SECOND.) |

Originally posted by Jigglysaint I thought it was because you're a sick, twisted, evil bastard. I mean, come on, you like Jigglypuff (apparently), wtf!? Hex Editor: Translhextion Graphics: TLP IPS Patcher: Lunar IPS Everything else: Game-specific, and I even try to avoid the hex editor. I'm not really a dedicated rom hacker, obviously, I just toy around with shit when I feel like it. |

Hex Editor: WindHex32
Tile Editor: YY-CHR That's it, other than that they're all game-specific or rarely used. |

Corruptster and Hex Workshop. Most of the time that's all I need for just about every system. I don't call myself the God of Corruption for nothing. |

FCEUXD for my debugging, hex editing, hacking purposes.
Tile Layer Pro for desiging my levels And Lunar IPS for making backup patches. I used to use SNES Tool ever since until I expanded my mm3 rom and it would screw it up .....that's when i switched to lunar ips ...and i don't have those problems anymore. |

Hex editor: Hexecute
Emulator: Snes9x Debugger: (A debugger is for search things in the rom doesn't it? if so, then I guess I use the "search for new cheats" tool in Snes9x) Graphics editor: Tile molester!! (It's the thing I most use XD) ASM hacking: None, I don't know ASM XD IPS patcher: Lunar IPS SNES->PC->SNES: ._. I don't know what's this... |

For hex editing, I use Hexposure. For graphics, I use Tile Layer sometimes but mostly stick to Nesticle. IPS patching, if I ever get around to completing something enough to mess with it, is done with SNEStool.
And yes, I'm running an older system, for those wondering. |

Transhexlation, ZSNES, YY-CHR, and... well, that's about it. I would use Lunar Address for ASM hacking, but I keep forgetting to download it... |

Hehe.
Good ol HexEdit. Certainly a wonderful Hex Editor. I basically use it for everything I do, as I'm not much of a graphicy person. And of course, Boycott Advance 0.2.6 (It's an old version, but it runs about 3x as fast on my old laptop). Mac Hacking yay. |

I see. Well, it still doesn't have hypnotic red and blue patterened text or Magus as an icon. My hexadecimal editing needs are complicated and involve the king of monsters adorning my task bar.
Alternately, I'm just too lazy to switch. Whichever explanation is acceptable to you is the correct one. |

Originally posted by Glyph Phoenix Um... XVI32 can extend files. You need to hit the "insert" key for it to activate though. You can also use the insert string feature to pad in extra bytes from any location, regardless of whether you are in insert mode. The default empty "file" cannot be written to until you choose File->New, thus declaring it as a file and not an empty control. |
