So that's one of the (apparently) twenty Revolution titles set to go at launch.

You can't fault Nintendo for not trying, that's for sure.

It's called "Red Steel," and it's sort of an FPS. You use the nunchaku-type controller(s), and the aiming and such is motion sensored. You even get to use a katana with the remote! !

There's the digg article, too.

I still don't know how the hell you would use the Revolution's controller, or a Katana shaped one, for an FPS. I hope it doesn't turn out like Resident Evil's infamous "Chainsaw Controller..."

It is different, though. When you're just using a D-pad, you're not moving aside from pushing down with your thumb. In this case you're actually swinging your arm. It could be confusing, since the sword in the game stops but your arm doesn't due to momentum.

The screenshot actually looks very distorted, as if it were in the middle of some 3D wave effect. Still cool though.
If you look closely, you see that the wave effect is there becuse it's on a piece of paper.

No, it's not that. Look near the hips of the guy in the front. It looks like he's reflected in rippling watter or something.

I dont' see how it's any different from playing, say, Starfox and you end up crashing into a wall. Physically nothing pulls your thumb off the d-pad in that direction. But you get the visual feedback to allow yourself to make that adjustment. And if not there's something wrong with your brain. If you see your sword clash with another you'll adjust. And who knows, maybe they'll have a rumble feature as well.

I also don't imagine that the sword fighting will be anything like normal fighting. I mean, the receiver just guages position, not distance. So movements aren't as fast or nuanced as real life.

Can you say "sitting too close to the TV"?

Can you say "accidently bashed through the glass of the television"?

That's silly because it's unintuitive

I can't think of a way for it to work, sure. But it definitely can. But not that way.

Yeah, obviously. Now what they would need to do is make it to where you have to angle your controller the right way to regain control over your sword, and the first person to regain control is able to push the other down and kill him/her.

...odds are that they won't even think of that or anything like that...

Halo 2's swordfights consist of aiming and pressing a trigger, therefore it is considered to me to be the worst way to kill someone in a fun way. Its the lamer weapon. Then again, this has nothing to do with

Well, this shows that games on the Revolution are going to be a lot more interactive than the other consoles. And this backs up the defence of making a Star Wars game for the Revolution.

Does anyone else think it's funny that for the first time in (to my knowledge) video game history (excepting DDR and kin) there will probably be as many videos etc. of people playing the game as there are of just the game graphics?

I just read that and thought "Sword Handling 101."

Eh, not much about the game, though. If Ubisoft makes the sword the right way, then it will be good, but then again, the rest of the game has to be good...

Alastor: I am sure you have to press a trigger to regain control of the sword or parry... if they planned it that way, but then again, I highly doubt that they would find a problem such as yours a problem to deal with...

That is interesting. The online fact will probably get me to buy it, I'm going to pre-order a revolution as soon as I get a job, might as well see if I can pre-order this too.

But.. You guys must be missing something.

This game is ONLINE. Yes, online. Can you imagine how awesome that's going to be? Finally, Nintendo consoles online. I mean, Metroid is great... But this has SWORDS.

16 player online Katana duels! Forget the swordfights in Halo, this will be much, much more awesome.

Outside of Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia (Sands of Time; the other ones are meh) Ubisoft is pretty shitty. A couple of other Tom Clancy games were alright, but they don't make much that I care about or much that doesn't suck.

Ironic that the first Revolution title is anything but kid-friendly. Still uhm... I must say that this is hardly a title i'm excited over, but then they have made a few good games such as Splinter Cell (like Alastor said).

I admit, I thought the first title to be annonced would be something tech-demo cutish minigamish like the 1st generation DS games.

I'd guess that's where the "much" comes from, instead of being "anything".

The way you phrased the thread title, it sounded like they announced, like. The name of the revolution.
