Kuroi's eyes flicker open. He takes a cautious look around the room, his eyes moving slowly, not lingering on the objects in the room as those of a normal person might. He swings himself into a sitting position, and begins to think.

That's really the advantage of experience. A hero, a hero probably would have rushed into the street, and then... what? The hero would have to think of what to do next, and would look stupid in the process. Kuroi has seen enough seconds pass him by to cherish and savor each one he recieves. So now he waits, and considers his position.

After all, when dealing with people who have no respect for the sanctity of prayer, it is often wise to assume other erratic behaviors. There's probably someone else in this room... They saw him summon his statue, and if they're so determined to stop him from praying, they'd need to guard him. Sadly, it's obvious the prayer will have to wait until he can be sure of its completion. It is rude to be interrupted.

The second ends. Kuroi decides to wait, to see what his captors have in store for him.

Nijote: "Fine then, but if you say anything at all, the deal is off."

Nijote walked forward into a bar. It was absolutely empty, it always was. Nijote kept moving, looking at the bartender. He didn't seem to notice her. There was only one other person in the bar, in the back corner. The person was completely hidden from anything. Nijote sat across from this person and put the chaos emerald on the table.

Nijote: "I have a job for you, at one hundred times the price of a high profile assassination."

The person looked up and put a hand at the chaos emerald.

Nijote: "You will use this to kill Dracoon. Anything else won't work."

The person nodded and looked at Garro.

Nijote: "He will pay you after this is over, there will be no conformation as the field will be contaminated. If the emerald still exists, someone else will have to pick it up."

The person nodded, grabbed the chaos emerald and slowly left.

Nijote: "I want my fee now Garro, then you can trail Doe if you want. I would trust Doe though, he's never failed me."

Shen didn't move.

Shen: "Evan, I won't follow you anymore."

Shen turned away from Evan.

Shen: "I can't follow you anymore, I'm not like you. I'm tired, I don't want to fight."

Shen started to walk away, her mind set.

Shen: "Please, come by tonight or tomorrow, I'll be waiting."

Star: "How did you do that to so much energy?"

Hector laughed, they had managed to meet up in a valley between two mountains.

Hector: "It's chaos. Chaos promotes the ability to change things in erratic ways. It was like making the air change direction."

Star didn't understand. He wanted to stop Janus, but he had no way to do it.

Star: "I'm leaving, there is no reason for me to stay here, I'm useless."

Hector: "Maybe, but it might be you that has to kill him. Just think, if he's so strong with chaos emeralds, then imagine if you had them? What if you had three or four of the chaos emeralds, just think of the power you could wield."

Star: "I don't desire power like you."

Star started to leave, Hector didn't bother to stop him, there was no reason to. He didn't figure the plan would've worked anyways.

Garro: "Not in the least, Miss Nijote. I've been given orders to monitor your progress and provide proper backup. If you do have a problem with this, I suggest you give more of a reason than "you aren't coming any further". We can't have you failing, now can we?"

The man stood resolute, folding his arms in a distinguished manner. He waited for her to respond.

---------------

Evan sighed, taking cover in the forests below the former Crystal Psipalace. He hugged Shen, glad she was safe, and released her to the ground, standing to his full height. Despite his face being obscured, it was clear that he was dismayed with what he had to say...

Evan: "Shen, I can't.. Not now. It's not time yet, we have other things that need to be done, we have to guarantee the safety of several very important people right now. Yiusi, for one. He'll go after her no matter what. There's still some semblance of the old Janus left, and he'll want to see her."

Evan turned and looked to the skies. There was another floating isle, one that they'd have to go to before Janus could reach it...

"We can't let that happen. For all we know, she might be in love with him for real. It sounded that way, from the way he was talking to Schwa. As far as I can tell, he never got to find out for sure, and we can't risk the only piece of reality that Janus has left in him falling to pieces when she sees what he's become."

He turned away from her, towards the place where Schwa had fallen.

"Come on. We need to find Schwa and keep him safe. I'm not sure what Janus desires more; power, or Schwa's head."

Star: "It's the same as before."

Star fet time slow as the explosion came towards him. He was thinking at the speed of light and he knew that it was just the same. Just like fighting the mamoth of power that Dracoon had. Uncontrollable, unpredictable. Star knew how to beat it, but now, it was to late.

Hector: "Now, we can't have you out of commission can we."

Hector had started his act. The moster, the fiend. A leech, a parasite on the face of every strong warrior. No matter how strong someone was, he could leech the power away from you to continue his own life. That monster, that fiend, that handsome rogue.

Hector: "Disappear as soon as you can, Janus can't see this."

The blast seemed to bend around Hector in Star, leaving them both safe. When the blast weakened, Star moved as fast as he could. Hector simpy folded himself into the world, the perfect mirrior. All it was, was a cheap trick, the monster, the fiend.

Shen slowed their fall as they were safe.

Shen: "Evan, please tell me what's going on."

Nijote: "Well now, I don't know why you wanted to come."

Nijote started walking down a busy street, quiet, not wanting to talk to Garro. The chaos emerald in her hand meant nothing to her, it was just a stone that she could never admire.

Nijote: "You aren't coming any further, is that all right?"

Janus: "I'm thoroughly unimpressed!!!"

Janus' hands were like lightning, flashing his hammer to and fro and keeping directly in time with Star's futile attempts to bring him down. It was as though he was an unstoppable force, annihilating all that stood in his path. Finally, he looked for an opening in Star's style--- brilliantly trained, though ultimately clumsy compared to the rate at which Janus could see the world.

Oh, the colors... The sights, the sensations of power that flowed through him like some kind of force of nature. He could see every blow that Star flung at him, a process even higher in order than instinct itself guided him as he himself flash-stepped away from Star, glowing bright purple for yet another deadly blow. He stomped his foot, and the seals that covered his skin were blown outward by a short wave of Chaos itself. The seals on the walls of the palace began to sizzle and scorch as they reacted with Janus' power.

From far away, Evan felt the first touch. He grabbed Shen, knowing full well the rate of their descent just wasn't going to be enough. Without a word, he made simply a loud yell as he pitched himself off of the soul platform and hurtled towards the earth. Even falling might not be fast enough...

Janus brightened, and there was little anyone could do at this point. He knew this, and he spread his arms...

"You call that power? I'll show you power beyond your wildest dreams!"

There was a massive, earth-shattering explosion of nuclear proportions, with Janus himself at its epicenter. Ground zero was his body, a vessel for the dark detonator. The very boundaries of the material plane shook with the force of his attack, as the waves of Chaos Energy that previously exuded from him ceased to be waves, and simply became one gigantic ball of power, steadily expanding and annihilating everything it consumed. He could feel it. With every Chaos Emerald he assimilated into his being, his power grew immensely, guiding him towards that one single principle that consumes those of any degree of heart, be it weak or strong. Through the storm, the wave, the ball, the strength of his domineering force, there was a grin on his face as a shine of black light surrounded him. He knew that this was it. The first step had been taken, and the journey towards his ultimate ascension had begun.

"Malestrom of Chaos!!!"

Slowly, surely, the ball expanded to consume all of Crystal Psipalace. Beams of silvery ethereal light could be seen from the crystal discs of the Psi Warriors who had as yet refused to evacuate the palace, whose resolve was finally broken by the awesome display of power at hand. It held itself at the breadth that the palace expanded to, and finally receded, all at once, back into Janus, who simply floated in the empty air that remained.

Crystal Psipalace was completely destroyed, and Evan could see no sign of Star anywhere.

Evan: "NO! NO WAY!"

He stared back upwards as he and Shen fell to the earth, and stopped short in the middle of his fall, the focused Chaos beneath him keeping him afloat as he held Shen in his arms. Evan was awestruck. That kind of power... It was more than he had handled in his own world. What had happened between dimensions? Did this mean that Janus...

"He destroyed it..."

...That Janus was potentially stronger now than he was when he had the seven, himself? He did not dwell on the subject for long, as the ball had removed itself and Janus floated in full view. He had barely broken a sweat, and was hardly out of breath at all from the devastating assault. Evan knew. Now was the time to run. Run from a monster...

A monster, that is, whose first clear thoughts beyond his rage went directly to Schwa. Where... Where did he go?

---------------

Kalar: "Ten times the rate? That's preposterous!"

Garro: "But payable. Also..."

Garro withdrew from his coat a bright green jewel. The fourth... An ancient artifact of the egyptian culture, one that had rested within the great Pyramids for the longest time. Long ago, before his fated absence, Janus had told Kalar and Garro of the emerald in the Pyramids. The struggles that they had encountered in the past, whereupon Janus had visited them in search for truth and reconciliation, had led them to know of its whereabouts and retrieve it as quickly as possible. The duo presented the emerald to Nijote with slight hesitation.

Kalar: "Fine, take the emerald. Do what it takes to get the job done, and you'll get your reward. We don't pay for failures."

He takes the emerald from Garro's hand, and tosses it to Nijote with a look of frustration and disgust on his face. This was proving to be harder than he had anticipated.

"Tch! It's overpriced... How good can he be... But if that's what it takes to bring Dracoon down, then so be it. Get moving!"

He shoots another disgusted glance at Kuroi...

"And as for him..."

He motions to Garro. Garro raises an eyebrow...

"Kill him. No need for questioning. I can only assume he's the only one trying to contact Yiusi right now, or there'd have been others at that altar. In any case, we can hunt the rest down ourselves."

Garro bristled at this, and another look from Kalar snapped him to attention. He strode to Kuroi, drawing one of his guns from within his long, brown coat and pointing it at Kuroi's unmoving head. The gun's barrel trembled for a few seconds...

"Do it!"

Garro: "..."

Kalar: "Do it now!"

Kalar's expression was one of rage. Defiance at a time like this? Was it not clear that Kalar was in control? That Kalar was the brains behind this section of the plan? Garro had played his part; Janus had been returned, and everything henceforth was to be Kalar's responsibility. That included the disposal of unwanted aspects. Garro and Kalar slowly understood everything that was happening to Janus, be it by the efforts of some cosmic force or a letter that had appeared in his apartment upon his return, signed by him and dated a month ago. They wanted nothing more than for him to accomplish his goal. If that, of course, was what it took to get him back.

But Garro faltered. The gun lowered its head, and Garro looked intensely at his companion.

Garro: "No. I refuse..."

Kalar's expression was one of surprise and anger. He was about to interject, bringing his own weapon to bear, but Garro held up a hand to stop him, and interrupted powerfully.

"You know, Kalar. You know it's not necessary. There's no need to kill him if he's done nothing so far, and I think if anything this little experience will teach him just who he's dealing with. And if you try to kill him, then I'll stop you. You know I can. Don't be a bastard."

Kalar's anger slowly subsided, and he ground his teeth in disdain. A few moments of thought, and he began to come up with a better, more devious idea...

Kalar: "Fine. Weakling. But in exchange, you let me deal with him. Maybe we'll question him after all. Go oversee Dracoon's destruction. I'm counting on you two."

Garro: "Much better. We'll do our best, won't we, Miss Nijote?"

Kalar motioned for them to be off, and Garro led Nijote out the door of the apartment and into the streets below. Kalar focused his gaze on the prone body of Kuroi, knowing Garro's spell would wear off soon. The shadows in the room surrounded him as he prepared... He walked to the window, grabbed the shade, and closed it, an evil grin on his face.

Star soared through the air, unsure of what just happened. He spun as he hit what remained of the roof of the crystal psi palace. He was angry for some reason, rage flowed through him. He shot back down towards Janus, his entire body pulsating with energy.

Star: "Thousands of years of life and training, aeons of growth and developement, my full power, look at it Janus! Seal of the Stars!"

The crystal psi palace was covered by the seal, Shen took this time to protect Evan and herself and leave the psi palace before things got worse.

The psi palace glowed as the seal focused around Janus, showing up on his very skin. Star began to flash step and with each passing striked at Janus and his weapon, hardly appearing at all as he constantly attacked Janus.

Shen: "Evan, I'm sorry about what I did, but I believe it was the right thing to do."

Shen and Evan were safely moving towards the earth, standing on a slightly visible patch of soul energy.

Nijote was stunned.

Nijote: "I...I can't beat Dracoon..."

Nijote knew she couldn't beat Dracoon, it was impossible. They would hardly be able to hurt each other and it would be a test of endurance. Nijote didn't have the advantage of keeping it up forever either, she was doubtful that Dracoon would even fight her.

Nijote: "I know someone who can though... with a chaos emerald. Doe, an assassin from the underground society. I'm not sure what... it... is doing, but I'm sure it can defeat Dracoon with help."

Doe, the sniper, was genderless for all anyone knew. Doe however was probably the best one-shot killer in the world. The thing is, if the first shot didn't kill the target, the mission was most likely a failure.

Nijote: "If you give me the chaos emerald, I can take it to Doe and tell it about the objective. Dracoon will be dead as soon as possible. If Dracoon doesn't die, I doubt anyone would be able to stop him. Even the current Janus would have problems with him right now."

Nijote turned towards the limp, might as well be, corpse.

Nijote: "You should question him and find out why he was trying to contact Yiusi, if you guys die, I don't get paid after all."

Nijote paused for a second, almost forgetting something.

Nijote: "And about tracking down Doe, it'll be ten times the rate than it was for stopping this guy, Doe will probably want ten times that."

Evan's eyes flitted open for a few seconds, as he muttered something only Shen could hear. His head dropped back down, and he rested for a few seconds before forcing himself to his feet. He wasn't done fighting yet...

Star was, as was par for the course with these psychotically one-sided story battles, completely outmatched by Janus, who glowed purple for an instant as he flashed in and out of existence and out of the way of Star's blade. He reappeared behind Star, gripping his shoulder tightly, and raising his hammer above his head...

Janus: "I don't know why I'm condescending enough to deal with you today, Star...

He swung his hammer at Star from behind, and disappeared a second time, reappearing to his left and swinging again. There was another flash, and Janus ended with a golf-shot to Star's midsection, aimed at sending him flying. Janus leapt back from his list of blows to Star, and glowed brightly with Chaos Energy, the blaze more intense than before by far... Three Chaos Emeralds, and the hate and rage that accompanied his dismay at Star for truly betraying him in what he perceived as his hour of need.

"...But if your choice is to try to kill me, then you must not know how alive I feel right now!"

Evan's eyes snapped open, as he sensed EXACTLY what Janus was trying to do. Star? That was Star for sure! That blade, that sword style, and the fact that Janus had called him by that name was more than enough evidence. He rose to attention, and directed as much energy as he could at warning Star!

Evan: "Star, NO! He's going to--"

Janus: "You shut up, interloper!"

Janus pointed at Evan, blowing a wave of Chaos Energy at him that knocked the hulking man backward, but not down. Evan silenced himself, and turned to Shen.

Evan: "Shen, we've... we've got to get out of here now. I've seen this before..."

---------------

Garro: "That's fine, that's fine, Miss Nijote. We're really just glad that you were good enough to meet with us under these conditions. However, your convulsive friend here was not part of the agreement. You know what we're dealing with, here. Dispose of him, or deal with him however you might."

Garro waved a hand at Kuroi, and he became encased in a Stop spell for the next few seconds. That should hold him, Garro thought.

Kalar: "Really, we want to discuss your next mission. There's a lot of money and power in it for you if you succeed. It's tough, but we have faith in you."

Garro: "Yes..."

Kalar got up and walked to the window of Janus' living room, lifting the shade to the rising sun, and folding his hands behind his back.

Kalar: "For your next mission..."

He turned around, and the light in the room clashed with the sunlight to cast a shadow around his body, eclipsing the sunlight from the view of all others in the room.

"...We want you to deactivate Dracoon. Permanently, if possible."

Kuroi is immediately coated in a bright golden light upon hitting the couch. His eyelids open, but the eyes themselves seem to be rotating at random. He jerks upright, as though being handled roughly by an invisible force. His mouth opens, and he begins to babble, words and syllables in fifty different languages, none of them forming phrases of any coherence to speak of. His arms and legs flail wildly as his fingers continually flex and unflex, dozens of times per second.

And then he collapses again, and the light fades.

Shen walked towards Evan and when he passed out, she reached out with her soul to hold him upright. Before the chaotic power could overcome her, she raised a barrier to filter it out. She slowly let Evan fall to the floor and tried to wake him back up.

Shen: "Evan... Don't hate me for that..."

Star didn't seem to mind the chaos as it washed over him.

Star: "You know Janus, I've had a long time to think about how to kill you. I may not understand what happened to you, but I know the real you would be begging me to kill you right now!"

Star leaped at Janus, bringing his sword down with a strong force, but he wasn't aiming at Janus' body. Star knew that Janus couldn't be killed through his body. He was aiming at Janus' hammer. Star would break it and destroy everything inside.

Nijote checked to see if her victim was still alive. He was, of course, Nijote knew that she didn't kill him, but she had to check to ease herself. She picked up his limp body and touched a radio communicator in her ear.

???: "Are you ready?"

Nijote: "Yeah, go ahead, teleport me."

Nijote and Kuroi vanished in a bright light.

Nijote and Kuroi reappeared with a flash of light, right outside the door where Kalar and Garro were waiting. She didn't bother knocking, but walked right in. She tossed Kuroi onto a nearby couch and looked at Kalar and Garro.

Nijote: "I hope you weren't waiting to long, he... was a little stronger than I thought."

Nijote's thoughts: "Those traps were overkill, such a waste."

Janus: "Are you so sure about that...? Do you have any idea what I intend to do with this power? Don't be so naive, you blind bitch. You can "see" no better than I can shed a tear for anyone in this room's pain."

He reached forward, and snatched the Emerald from Shen's hand, his eyes growing wide as he grinned at its magnificent beauty and power... But his joy soon turned to a scowl, as he realized what a binding he had created in his greed. His face turned to Shen's, and he eyed her dangerously as the Emerald glowed for several seconds, turned a blazing white color, and disappeared, its power integrated into Janus' being.

"But, for the Emerald, he lives. For now."

Janus stomped his foot, and the barrier around he and Shen was shattered instantly, with Janus' power amplified once more by the presence of a third Chaos Emerald... The wave of energy blew quickly and shortly out from him, and the light of the barrier was shattered to pieces as Janus backed away from Shen. Despite his feelings of anger and rage, there was something deep inside him that still survived, suggesting that yes, he could trust this woman, even though she was his enemy. If only he left that man alive, that is...

Janus backed a few more steps away from Shen, and looked at Star out of the corner of his eye. Star...

Star, of all people, he had not expected to stand against him. The shifting rivalries that all of the parties involved had experienced in the past, the friendships and hardships that they had overcome together suggested that there might be a possibility that Star, whom Janus had confided in so long ago, would ally with him and taste the sweetly supreme power that he sought.

Alas, that was not to be. Janus knew that the moment Star touched his sword. That was what it always meant.

This time, though... This time, Star was outmatched and both he and Janus knew it.

"And you, Star... How dare you assume you know such a thing..."

Janus placed his hands on Satchel's handle, and held it outward, ready and willing to kill.

"I look like Janus, don't I? Don't I feel like Janus? When I came close, so damn close to killing Schwa just now, didn't you think it was me? Don't I hold this hammer without difficulty? Is there any other man in the world who can do so?"

His expression changed again from scowl to grin, and the purple light surrounded him, intensified by the newer of his three Emeralds.

"Do you have the courage to face the truth? That yes, I AM the Janus you once knew and befriended?"

Crystal Psipalace was in flames... It would not be long at all, now, until the destruction inside the castle caused its outside to begin to fail. Evan slowly got to his feet as Janus boasted, and looked to Shen. She was all right, miraculously! He staggered towards her, knowing that if he was right, this was but a short interlude in Janus' rampaging hate. And who was it that had showed up at this moment to save them...?

Was that Star? Had they met before...? Evan's thoughts were very brief before the Chaos Energy around them all became too much for him to bear, and consciousness left him.

---------------

Kalar: "She's late."

Garro: "I expect she met with some resistance, if she even took our mission at all..."

The two of them waited in the old apartment that Janus had lived in before his disappearance... It was littered with books of magical study, mounds of video games and consoles, and a refridgerator full of various juices and wines from a wide variety of worlds. Presumably, Janus had drank from them all.

Probably all at the same time, at some point.

This was the apartment that Janus had lived in. Despite his fabulous wealth from the hundreds of thousands of years he had spent adventuring, Janus intentionally chose this spot as a chance to live a normal life once again. The apartment was worthless, dingy, run-down, and centered in the slums of the city that they had lived in, but for some reason, the man was happy here. Janus had mentioned many times that he was a fan of the life that the people in this part of the city had led... working hard every day to eke out a living amongst the worst the world had to offer. He had admired their courage and perseverence, and sought to live among them. Of course, with refusal to touch his wealth also came the difficulty of having a day job and paying bills. In order to keep a healthy balance between his work and his daily requirement of kicking ass and taking names, Janus had decided to get a roommate.

Some time ago, Janus had rented out the apartment to a rather peculiar man that the three of them had developed a potent dislike for. He was a powerful psychic, and as a result knew exactly how to get all three of them pissed off for no reason. Because of this, he was eventually forced out of Janus' life, and had gone to live on an isolated island that, as he put it in a recent letter (unread, by the look of the dusty envelope still on Janus' kitchen table), floated in the skies above the planet.

In any case, Janus kicked him out, went back to his day job, and reserved his nights for going out and looking for people in danger. This particular fact played a very significant role in allowing him to meet someone very special to him, and the direct result of such an endeavor actually caused his employers, a grocery store down the street from his apartment, to presume him dead after he had not come into work for several months, which leads us to the present day.

But enough backstory.

Kalar and Garro waited in silence for their employee to finish her job. They had another proposal for her, and had told her to meet them here when she finished her current target off.

If she could, that is.

Kuroi's shadow returns to his body as the attacks begin. The first gunshot shatters the statue into millions of golden shards, which fly off in a sudden gust of wind. Kuroi himself recieves blow after blow to his back, but remains motionless and unflinching despite the wounds.

And then, a soft blue light envelops the clearing. All motion stops within the area... Perhaps it is time that is manipulated. A voice asks psychically through the stilled air...

"Why?"

The light fades. Kuroi collapses to the ground, unconscious, perhaps from the wounds, perhaps from the prayer. Whether or not Kuroi had time to finish is completely unknown, even to himself.

The purple lightning just flew through the trees, completely missing it's target. Nijote had been moving while attacking, and right now, she was already behind Kuroi. Without any hestiation, she began to attack him with a series of kicks, but at the same time, she fired 29 bullets at the statue. No matter what, Kuroi was going to get interupted, Nijote refused to fail.

The shadow reaches out a phantasmal arm at incredible speed, snatching the bullet out of the air. The bullet does not stop, but is merely redirected at the wire upon which the liquid approaches. With a silent snap of his fingers, the shadow turns the bullet to acid, and it rips right through the razor wire. The liquid has no path to delivery, so hopefully will be unable to detonate the knife.

Kuroi's shadow then turns to the source of the bullet, holding out a single 'finger' out of which a bolt of purple lightning erupts. A target struck by this attack will have their mind temporarily damaged, so will probably either lose consciousness or become paralyzed. It will last only a minute or so, but that would definitely be long enough to finish the prayer and get away.

Kuroi himself continues to remain stationary, wholly focused on his task.

Staying in one place, would be nothing short of suicide. Nijote reached out her arm out and pointed as gun at Kuroi. She thought she was going to kill him, but something inside of her made her move the gun just enough, so that if Kuroi didn't dodge, the bullet would only go through his shoulder. At about the same time, Nijote released a liquid that ran down the string nearest to Kuroi and when it hit the knife, it exploded like a stick of dynamite.

(ooc: You still have it wrong, Dracoon. It's not Kurio, it's Kuroi.)

"Yes, yes I would like to know what's going on. But that can wait. Exactly how far away from this man do we need to get? I would like to ensure the safety of you and your... companion. Kuroi is a bit occupied at the moment, but I trust he'll be joining us shortly."

Adric seems uncharacteristically worried. But then, chaos is something you just don't mess with.

His thoughts stray for a moment to the crystal. At one point, it had been perhaps the most powerful defense against any magic that would do harm to the bearer. He recalled having relied on it extensively in many of his past battles, all of them flicking by in his memory. For it to have been so immediately ruined... He has few hopes of winning a battle with this mysterious adversary.

OOC: Gah, you're all screwing with my head... Sorry for the wait, guys. (I think I know where this is going... Chaos Emeralds? Yeah-heh heh heh... Yer style sure is somethin', mucho. )

"!! Schwa, someone's following us! ...It's JANUS!"

"Wha? ...NO, it's not. Hell, don't scare me like that again or I'll--"

"But he's moving faster than us, so what do we-- Hurry, Schwa, think of something!!"

"...Just a sec'... Holy shit! He's a major ally!"

"Really?"

"Keep flying. I'm falling back for a second."

"Be careful..."

Schwa falls back a little and swoops slightly higher, putting him only 6 feet in front of Adric in only a few seconds. It may startle him, but then again, knowing him, it may not. Schwa doesn't look back as he telepathizes with him.

"Your energy signature can only mean one thing... You're the guy, the ONE guy who saved my ass twice without warning-- against a dragon god, then again against a dimension-hopping android. Adric! So what is it, 'third time's the charm' or something? We're fighting someone powerful beyond the laws of physics this time-- yeah, tougher than that dragon and that bot put together, I'm afraid-- I could use some assistance, but I ain't about to drag an innocent into it against his will! So what's your shpiel? Need me to explain anything?"

Allaura enters the conversation. "Schwa, who is that? I can't stand being left in the dark again!"

"Just a moment, Allaura. Go ahead and fall back as well if you want to meet my ol' friend here."

She doesn't fall back-- yet anyway. Still, she's in this, if Adric wants to tell her anything.

In a temple outside the realm of existance itself, in a place known only to the most advanced scholars as Oracle Haven, a regal figure in the heaviest robes you could think of sits on a glittering, silver throne, concentrating as he hears the prayer of a mysterious warrior from another realm...

"Catastrophe always ends for the better. Yiusi, you will soon be tested on this... Forgive me."

Nobody hears him say this but himself and Sensae, who knows exactly what he means... as usual.

(ooc: excuse me? Adric is flying above the forest, it's Kuroi who is doing the praying. I'll assume you meant to direct your attack on Kuroi. If this is, in fact, incorrect, please let me know.)

Kuroi remains perfectly calm. His pale skin and long, dark hair are still frustratingly motionless. Not even a flicker can be seen in his closed eyes.

But of course, he must have noticed. The orb in the statue's hand begins to glow with a pale yellow light. Kuroi's kneeling figure casts a shadow on the ground, which then proceeds to stand up off the ground and take a look around for the hidden assailant.

After all, nothing may interrupt the prayer.

Adric is beginning to catch up on Schwa...

Sadly for Kuroi, someone didn't want to let his prayers be heard. A knife flew from a nearby tree, hitting the ground in front of Kurio. There was a string attached the end of the knife...

"Samantha Coolling" had recieved the letter almost instantly and had departed within five minutes. The letter had very specific instructions on who to go after and what to look for. Her network of spies and information responded well, telling her where she needed to go in no time flat.

She began to move.

...Kuroi was already caught in her web. Many knives were littered through the forest, each one a sign of a trap. The razor wire string on the end turned the forest into a deady trap itself, and someone lurked in the trees.

Shen: "Death accepts everyone, if they deserve it."

Shen's smile never faded as she still held the chaos emerald out in her hand.

Shen: "I will not try to decieve you or even stop you, but don't hurt Evan. Give him the chance to fight like you've gotten many times in your life."

Shen's half smile turned into a real smile as she moved the chaos emerald further out on her hand.

Shen: "I've seen your soul before, a while ago, I know you'll get through this."

Star stepped into sight as Shen finished speaking. He looked at Janus, then at Shen, at the barrier, and finally the, presumably, injured Evan. A small wisp of a cloud began to swirl in the air above them as Star held his sword to his side, the seals on it glowing brightly. Star looked around and then focused back on Janus.

Star: "You aren't Janus..."
