Just imagine if they did crack down on all of the people who do have sites like you insectduel. Imagine say if they just decided the time was right then everyone of you guys would get sued. I don't know how I'd spend my time then. In my opinion, I really don't think a few NES ROM hacks would kill Nintendo, and I also don't see why they'd care. |

This would have been a lot more authentic if it had used the template the is actually used when getting sites shut down for such things. It would have been a lot less obvious to those of us who've received such emails in the past. Additionally, they wouldn't tell you how popular and great your hacks are when aiming to sue you.
As for the spelling errors and typos, those weren't a giveaway at all. Official emails of this kind actually do contain such errors, though the number of errors in DD's email was too large. The template that the IDSA (ESA) uses (used?) actually had a large error in it, heh. Really, though, companies don't care enough to do this sort of thing that much. Square and some others will kill off ran remakes or sequels, but usually all companies will do is try to get sites with ROMs on them shut down, and oftentimes they don't bother to look into it enough and shut down the wrong sites. Sites that actually bother to contest this go right back up and never even get a response to their email stating that a mistake was made. As I said, these companies simply do not care much. |

I knew it was an April Fool's joke since the beginning. And I just saw this thread. The time recieved and the time posted didn't make any sense. If it were real, it would have been posted shortly after it had been recieved. This is probably the only time I'm going to post in the ROM Hacking Forum here.  |

I was fooled too... Nintendo would never lose money off ROM hacks. If anything, Sony is - I prefer to play SMB on emulators on my PSP, rather than actual PSP games. And why would Nintendo praise DahrkDaiz for his hacks, just before trying to prosecute him for them? That's like the police praising a bomber for the quality of his bomb, then arresting him for it. |

Wow, I actually believed it for a while, then sent the letter to my friend. I believed it but the part I couldn't believe was the fact that "Nintendo" said that they were losing money off your hacks. I mean really though, if they lost money off of a ROM hack, then that's sad on their part. I mean you are an exellent hacker, probably the best in my eyes, but I know I play hacks, and that doesnt change how I buy Nintendos products. I have a life of emulation, which in my opinion seems unrelated to what they are selling now.

this is very fishy.... I doubt that letters real... its april fools day, if you're going to decide to post something that vital to you, Why today of all days? there is no way nintendo would be after a person like you or any other person, I'm sure nintendo doesn't go around on the internet trying to find people's sites to take down...
I think this is a joke because 1.)April 1 2.)I have seen this prank pulled TONS of times like at SWS2B *such as the site being hacked by area 51 and simon being banned *many fake notes - one inparticular was SEGA telling simon to take off the sonic 2 beta and some other things about roms... *and last but non least hoaxs galore 3.)specifically you, one of the best... come on... This is why I hate april fools day, because people convince you like crazy then you get a little note saying "april fools *list of how many people posted here*" If it's not a joke, then you may personally come up to me one day out of nowhere and shoot the crap out of me, cut me up and dice me with a sword, or send your dog fluffy after me, I'm not saying this is 100% true or fake, but I suspect its Fake more than True |

What I'm wondering is about that letter from SEGA of UK. Did they really react that quickly to the bittorrent release? Holy shit, unless this is another April Fool's Joke. If not, I feel bad for drx and Stephen.
But for now, I'm placing DD's letter under a "check into." If you are completely serious DahrkDaiz, then post on your honor as a modder. Something tells me that you wouldn't if it were an April Fools joke. But if you do... well, sometimes we all gotta remember that something called "copyright laws" exist out there. We can all be screwed over, given time. |

I smell an APRIL FOOLS!!! comming on. Ill wait about a week, then make judgement. I highly doubt nintendo cares, or would try an prosecute you. They would simply threaten prosecution, and make you cease. Never have i heard of them just jumping straight to the lawsuite. I wasnt fooled for a second. |
