Hey, I liked it when I was working at the movie theatre...err..some days. That's where I met my hubby and a good friend of ours. Awww, I miss those days working projection.  I used to rollerblade through the floors, but it was intresting to thread a projector on blades, especially when you have to bend down b/c the blades make you so tall.  Also, O used to play FF6 up in the booth for hours. |

It likely has something to do with the theater chain we worked for, which was the most poorly run embarassment I've ever come across, but that's just my experience. |

Hey, if you're in my area, I could hire you part time. We pay minimal wage, so if you're looking for better pay, stay away from Gamestop, unless you wanna be in management or if you just want something to pass the time. |

i currently do landscaping for 12 bucks an hour. but the bad things it the hours suck lol.... so i am screwed |

Bussing tables isn't bad. A friend of mine works at a high-end restaurant as a busboy, makes $8 an hour + around $50 a night in tips. As a 16 year old, that is damn good money. Sure, you do have to work a bit and keep up with rushes, but if you're going to spend hours working anyway, why not get a job that is both demanding and rewarding? |

Have you tried applying for the city or town you work? Most cities have alot of jobs open. Seeing you age, you have limited options... However, if your town has a recreation department they should have quite a few positions.
The city I live in has a golf corse (before I get flamed, it is the only one and a recent, if not unsuccessful addition). Corses almost always can use a few caddy's. You just can't mind doing grunt work. Not knowing the game is fine. You could always apply to become a paige at a library I am in your boat though. I have a job, but I need a second one, or a kickstart on my career. What I have found is, there are always optiond that you never see. Some you don't even think of untill after the fact. |

If food service is the only type of thing you can get into then apply for hostess jobs or even a busser but just stay away from fast food. I applied at 1 and I'm glad they didn't hire me because weeks later I got hired at my job that I do now in retail.
It is better to start early looking for jobs and even fiinding a job because when you really need money at a later age, you'll have experience to find a good paying job. Well, that's the way I look at it because I already want a higher paying job  . I'd rather be doing what I do instead of food service though. I had to wait until I was 18 to be hired for a decent enough job. |

Using my own employment, as well of that of my friends, as reference, there's a pretty solid list of jobs that a 16- to 18-year-old might look for. I've been at a movie theater for the past couple of years, which is pretty terrible pay but free movies and such. If you're into movies, it will probably make you better suited to the job while also allowing you to see them without paying.
A few friends work at grocery stores, which seems to be the big employer of high school kids in my town. Most are cashiers which, from all reports, is a bit tedious, but a few stock shelves and do that sort of thing. They say it's not as bad. I know some people here at college who worked as waiters at home, or who have found jobs here as hostesses at local restaurants. The former job seems to have the most varied of appraisals, with the consensus being that customers can be a major difficulty but, on a good day, it's not a bad job to have. Tips also allow one to determine one's own fate, in a way, instead of receiving a straight paycheck. The latter job, a host or hostess at something like Chili's or Applebee's, is apparently not too bad, either. Workers double as busboys most of the time, but that seems to be minor. In North Jersey, where I live, I have the luxury of around three million malls being in range of my house, and any of the multitude of stores in those malls typically hire high school kids or returning college students. The options there are numerous. Finally, if it's a summer job you're after, as summer is fast approaching, a good many of my friends at school were lifeguards during high school and plan to return to it over summer break. Most say the hours are terrible, with long shifts and little opportunity for days off, but it is otherwise a painfully easy job. |

Whatever you do...don't get a job at a busy restraunt doing dishes. Hardest work, ever. And Ziff has had many bad jobs. Doing dishes at first was the worst thing that had happened in his sad, sad life.
Give them one or two calls back to show interest. Oh, and insectduel...Radioshack? They will NOT hire you. No matter what. They will destroy you. I swear, their hiring process is the craziest in all the known world. Two of my friends applied there. One of them had NO work experience and was asking for a higher starting pay and got the job. Shitty resume and cover letter, too. However, the other one that went didn't even get an interview. |

How are jobs for suckers? Everyone will have a job eventually, what's wrong with getting one sooner? You spend time drawing for money, that's like a job. Not everyone has a "talent" that can get them money like that.
That's the kind of attitude I see everywhere at school, it drives me insane. |

And if you don't want to do food service, which it sounds like you don't, talk to people. There are more open positions than you might think, and even if there aren't, a lot of places, when they find a friend's son who's supposed to be capable is willing to do the work, they'll realize they could use the help. That's how some of my friends lined up jobs, and that's how I got one of my summer jobs. |

I've made up my mind never to work in food service or anything like that but it probably depends a lot on location as well. If you're lucky enough to get a job at a place that is never really busy and just has a steady stream of clients with no real rushes or anything, it's probably better. Getting a job at a mall restaurant where there's always people standing in line... not so much. |
