Ew.

I'd remove any links/info on it if Capcom legal told me to do so, but I don't even know if they're allowed to do THAT. If the stuff's already in the game, well... it's MEANT to be unlocked.

Holy crap.

The admins on that site are really stupid.

I can actually see why they put it all on the disc itself... If nothing else, the less you have to download to do stuff, the better, typically. Of course, they do have the slight issue of trying to get people in trouble for it, given how it's not actually illegal, but that's okay. How it plays out... will be seen later.

Well it's not like Capcom has anything better to do. They used to be cool, man. Now all their game franchises aren't really that great and don't get me excited at all. So they do stupid things like this. :B

Thing with internet, when something is relesed and people actually care about it... well it's really hard to make people stop spreading it further.

Well, there's nothing in this incident precluding Capcom from allowing people to download additional content as well - the only point I've tried to make is that this particular "downloadable content" was already on the disc waiting to be unlocked.

Everything in that save was obviously in the game itself or maybe taken from Japanese downloads somehow. :\ More the former I'd think.

I'm guessing that a lot of people have large memory sticks anyways. :\

It's still amazing how sycophantic some of these fanboys can be.

Like everyone else said, Capcom brought this upon themselves... and making such a huge deal out of it is just going to make it even more hot of a topic.

You speak the truth, my friend.

Seriously, Capcom is making a big deal over nothing here. So what if all the features were unlocked? They brought it upon themselves. At any rate, this is going to end with failure for Capcom. Look at what happened with Nintendo and Game Genie. Nintendo was angry at Game Genie for allowing players to cheat in games, but they lost the case. A similar thing happened with Pokemon, only that time, Nintendo attempted to stop the codes. They partially succeeded, but in the end, everything was able to be gotten around. No big deal.

More similarly, Nintendo balked about SMA4, but eventually stopped caring. They had partial success in getting rid of some of the special saves, but just couldn't handle it all. But like Chev said, that case involved money, and this one does not.

I mean, Rockstar isn't complaining about the ability to use GTA:LCS to run downloaded and homebrew software on the PSP, which is much worse than this petty little thing. Capcom is just going ape-shit because their source of mass promotion (the downloads) has been terminated. If anything, their complaining is going to encourage the spread of the file.

No, dumped ROM is not illegal. Distributing ROMs you don't have the right to distribute is illegal.

Anyway, since this save only unlocks content that is already on the game disc (regardless of whether or not is was intended for presentation as "downloadable content"), here it is. This is no different that distributing an SMA4 save that unlocks the cape.

No. Save files have been publicly distributed for a long time on GameFAQs (and, I assume, other places), and nothing's been done that I know of.

The reason Capcom's so pissed is that data was hidden and not supposed to be available yet.

You'd think they'd learn from Rockstar's mistake. He who does not learn from history...

WTF.

The logic of every person there that's taken Capcom's side horribly, horribly fails. =/ I could directly pick them apart if you so desire, but that'd make this post far longer than I'd like, so lemme summarize my stance.

It's a save file. It's not the full game. Capcom doesn't lose money from it, and the save file's existence does not affect how other people play the game if they chose not to use it.

Lemme elaborate on the "not losing money" part - I don't know if the download-only features were supposed to require that you pay money. If they were, then it's their own fucking fault for including the content on the disk. And if not, then they're not losing anything.

So why bitch about it?

Shorthand: Some guy made a hacked savestate with ALL features unlocked (Including download-only features. That's the important part, mind you.) and Capcom is angry.
