Mario seemed to mix with SMB things (A pet Chain Chomp...) so I like the Idea that Wart took refuge in Links dreams.

He's likely:

A. Reincarnation
B. Clone
C. Alternate-Dimension Version
D. Product of lazy programmers who didn't feel like coming up with a new idea.

[EDIT:] Whoops, sorry. Didn't see your edit on the post with the pictures.

Or maybe it was just a cameo appearance as a friendly nod from the Zelda devlopment teams to the Mario development teams

Possibly, or perhaps he took refuge in Link's dreams after being kicked out of Mario's.

Plus Link's Awakening was made after Super Mario Bros. 2. Hell, there's even SMB3 references in LoZ:LA (Mario in a racoon suit, hehe)

Edit: SMB2 was also a dream. So did Mario go tell his buddy Link out-of-game about Wart?

There are a bajillion and a half references to mario in Link's Awakening. The thing you need to remember is that game was entirely a dream. So...none of it happened ._.;; Wart isn't really there, I guess.

I really see no difference. ...except that the LoZ one looks like he's wearing the pope's hat.

Mamu is really the Japanese name of Wart even in SMB2, hence the "M" on Autobomb.

I found something quite wierd... Wart was in another game! He appeared as Mamu in LOZ: Link's Awakening.
He looked like this: Doesnt he look like this?: or this?:

Wart seeks refuge in Zelda IV?
It seams like Wart, after beeing kicked out of Sub-Con by Mario and friends, fleed to the dreamworld that Legend of Zelda IV-Links Awakening takes place in. Here hegoes under the name of Mamu the Frog and lives with two smaller frogs in a deep hole under the Signpost Maze. (he probably goes under false name to stop Mario from finding him). If Link visits him when he has the Ocarina, Wart will let him listen to his bands (consisting of him and the two other smaller frogs) newest unreleased song the "Frog Song of Soul". Link can the learn this strange song that can bring dead creatures back to life!

Odds are he was probably in Subcon the entire time. He probably just lived somewhere else while he plotted his capture of the fairy things.

I have a question! Where was Wart from SMB2 before SMB2? Like History for Wart, and if he ever appeared in another game.

Its fanfiction though....how is that going to actualy answer any questions about the game?

and yes, the game is called Donkey Kong, because Kranky was the original DK. Then he had DK Jr. who seems to have disappeared into oblivion. His son, who would be DK the 3rd, becomes the DK we know today. How do we know this? Cranky is his grandpa, and Cranky himself says he used to go out against Mario. The name Cranky might just be a name given to him in his old age by the other monkeys. No self respecting parrent would purposly name their child Cranky upon birth without some sort of indication of future behavioural patterns (similar to Funky Kong, you honestly think thats his name? Unless his parrents were pot smoking hippies, then...)

So why is the current DK called DK? Well, think about it. If you're really a Jr. do you refer to yourself as So-and-so Jr? No, you refer to yourself as so-and-so. Same with the 3rd. DK is technically Donkey Kong III, but due to naming conventions obviously dosn't go by that. This should hopefully dispell most of the DK related questions.

Yeah. Their last names are officially Mario. Mario Mario and Luigi Mario. (They're the Mario Bros., so that's their last name.)

I might as well just post my little fanfiction thing right now.

I was born into an Italian family in Brooklyn, but my parents didn't care about me too much, or my brother Luigi... we were raised, and were known as Mario Mario and Luigi Mario. When we were one and a half, we were having a bath, because there was company coming over later. So, she starts to empty the water, but then remembers that she left the oven on, and runs away. Then, my brother and I fall down and into the drain. It was a normally-sized drain, but it had extraordinary possibilities. It could shrink you and make you go into it. Then, once we reached the end of it, we were shot out of it.

A stork, nearby, found us, and had known a Toad family that wanted two children very much. So, it had begun taking us there, when it was attacked. It turns out that the young Bowser, heir to the Koopa throne, wanted us captured, because his caretaker, Kammy Koopa, foresaw us fighting against him in the future. But, Kammy's minions only retrieved Luigi and the stork, having me fall down, into the sea below, and I landed on a Yoshi's back. They're excruciatingly highly shock-absorbent you know, so you could land on them from an airplane and still not hurt them when you land on them. It also wouldn't hurt you, either.

So, I land on the Yoshi's back, and a few seconds later, a piece of paper gently floats down to us. The Yoshi seems to know that it's a map, and he knows how to read it. He takes me to some of his friends, and they help me find my way over to my brother, Luigi.

The Yoshi learns tricks, as do I, and I quickly learn the language that they speak. Oh, and I forgot to mention that me and Luigi are twins. We were born exactly two hours apart, too. So, we make it over there, and me and Green Yoshi (who happens to be the one that I had landed on) defeat Bowser and Kammy for the first time ever. I felt so good that day. I had stopped an evildoer, and saved my brother and some bird. So, then the stork takes us over to the family, and we live in very, very much peace for a long time afterwards.

Then, I start to go to school. Most of the children are Toads, but there was one. She was so beautiful, and her name, was Peach Toadstool. She always wore a pink dress, which looked kind of over-fancy, compared to my red shirt and hat, my blue overalls, and my brown shoes. Luigi was dressed nearly the same, but he was green, instead of red. He was always much taller than me, even though he was my younger brother. So, I soon find out that Peach was also originally from Brooklyn, and that she fell into a similar warp pipe, only at an even younger age. She was then taken by a different stork to the royal family, and had been living a life of royalty and wealth ever since.

So, we're great friends in school. Eventually, I get a bachelor's degree in carpentry and sewage refurbishing, as well as puzzle-solving and sports, and I set out to get a job. I find someone that's been searching for a decent carpenter to help build this building, which is actually the new Mushtown City Hall.

So, I'm about half-done it, when tragedy strikes - A gorilla escapes from the zoo and starts to climb up the metal beams in place in a part of the building. Though, being so good at sports, I'm able to jump over the barrels he was throwing at me, then pick up one and throw it at him, then hit him with a hammer, and I knock him out. When he's knocked out, he drops a girl, but I save her from falling too far. It turns out that her name's Pauline, and that she was another human. But, the thing is, I never see her again after that. But, I had my heart set on someone else, anyways, remember.

So, anyways, I finish building the city hall, but I've got to check out the sewers underneath, as there have been odd creatures spotted down there recently, and they had been damaging the sewage system and the pipes, and there were even fireballs and icicles moving all over the place down there, it was so odd. There were spiked turtle-creatures, crabs that needed to be hit twice, and before the second time, they're REALLY mad, and there were these odd, giant flies that jumped around.

I clean out the sewer, and earn enough money to get myself a house. I say goodbye to my family, and me and Luigi move over to Toad Town. We find out later, that Peach's castle was there, too! Yes, all was well in Toad Town. …For the time being, that is…

This should probably answer most questions asked, except for those about Mario outside of gaming.

How is that "basic logic" ? Have you never seen people whose moustache/beard color was different from their hair ?
Also, some people have their hair that ends up growing white long before the beard, and vice versa...

Maybe DK was involved somewhere in Mario and Luigi: Partners in time, and something got looped somewhere.

Meh, the DK thing is explainable. Mario's old rival was Crankey Kong, not DK. Of course, this brings up the question as to why Crankey seems to have...well, aged, whereas Mario seems to be himself. Unless gorillas and humans age differently, I always figured they were similar enough that there wouldn't be that drastic of a gap
