He smirked slyly, giving him a cocky expression. This behavior was rather awkward for him, for usually he was anti-social altogether and did not play an antagonist. Often. Perhaps that was why he chose to do so now? It would be interesting to see how the battle turned out, for he could tell Azrael was strong, though he underestimated Jared's powers due to his conceitedness obscuring it like a shroud.

Keeping his arms crossed, he let the souls surround him as he looked on at them with an amused expression. Little did Azrael know, he was feeding off of his negative energy from the beginning of their encounter."Is all this floating around supposed to distract me or something while you come in for the kill?" He chortled at the thought. How could mere souls do anything of signifigance to him? Plain and simple, they couldn't. Whatever tricks Azrael had planned would most certainly fail. Tired of waiting, Jared charged forward as if he was going to maul through Azrael, then disappeared again, leaving the silver cloud of souls festering where he had been.

Azrael gave a little quirk of the eyebrow, as if to say 'bring it on'. He was prepared for almost anything Jared could throw his way. The soul's continued to gather around Azrael, only a few more and he'd have what he needed. He fed off of the gather soul's like a lion fed off his dead prey. They boosted his powers, made them sky rocket to level's he hadn't felt in years. Not since..... 'No!' Azrael thought to himself, frustrated that his mind had even wander to that topic. He glanced around and realized he had enough souls for now. His narrowed eyes landed on Jared. Finally, he'd wipe that smirk off of his face. Without a word from Azrael the souls started to circle around Jared, causing the dust on the ground to rise slighty.

Shrugging his shoulders out of boredom, he let out a light sigh. "So you mean...we're not pals?" he asked with false disappointment before revealing his pointed fangs in a devious smile. "Fine fine, we'll let it be a surprise then, eh?" He was growing a bit impatient as his green eyes shone, reflecting in them the silver glow of the accumulating souls as he waited for Azrael to do something interesting.

A look of annoyance flashed across Azrael's face when Jared called him Azzy."It's a figure of speach," Azrael muttered, more to himself than to Jared. "And as to what I am going to do with these here souls, "Azrael said, Focusing once more on the conversation they were having waving his arms to encompass all the souls that had already gathered. " That's for you to find out." He said as the souls continued to cluster around him.

"Alright, alright, Azrael. Dear friend, eh?" An amused exprression spread over his face at that, and as he listened to Azrael describe what a soul was. "Oh yeah, a soul. I think I used to have one of those. Once. Er...maybe not." He looked thoughtful for a moment as he studied the silver figures. "Anyhoo, Azzy, what is it you plan to do with these here, souls?"

Azrael's face twisted into a grimace at the misuse of his name. "It's Azrael not Azzy, and these, my dear friend are what I like to call soul's, you know what that is right?" Azrael drawled. "Here just in case you don't, it's what leaves your body after it's stopped working properly, otherwise known as, once it's dead."

He surveyed the surroundings once more as Azrael spoke. It did have a sort of eerie feeling to it, but then again, it was the land of the dead.

"Well, pleased to meet ya, Azzy. Say, maybe you should follow your own advice sometime!" he sneered. Noticing some silver thing appear near Azrael, his face contorted into an expression of confusion. Soon, there were many silver things all around, he began to wonder what was going on. "Say...whassat?" he asked, pointing to the silver stuff.

Slightly irked at Jared's apareant apathy, he responded somewhat hautily," Most people Know me as Azrael , and what first apears to the eye isn't always what is actually there," He stated calmly, as the wind started to pick up, whiping his hair around his face. The sky Darkened more than it was, if that was possible. "For instance, you see the land as baren," Azrael said semi conversationally, waiting to see Jared's reaction, "but it's not, far from it." Suddenly what apeared to be a silver substance, the same color silver as Azrael's eyes, materialized by Azrael's shoulder. As the first one emerged, others started to appear across the baren land flocking around Azrael like sheep to a sheperd. Lightening flashed in the sky and was illuminated in Azrael's eye's, as he continued to smirk at Jared.

Looking once again at his long claws, his expression was one of boredom. Stifling a yawn, he looked around apathetically, taking note of the dead trees, forboding sky and dark atmosphere. "Sorry to rain on your parade, 'ole chap, but there's not much to see around here." Gesturing with his arms, he motioned to their surroundings as he spoke. "I might know who you were if we hadn't skipped introductions. How rude of me..." he said with a slight bow. "The name's Jared. And you are...?"

Azrael raised an eyebrow at Jared's remark. "Arrogant? Hah! Have you even considered who I am? Look at all that you see!" Azrael exclaimed, spreading his arms out, confidence plastered to his face like a leech to its victim. "It's about time," Azrael said in his soft voice laced with power, " That you realize who it is you're dealing with here. This is MY realm, my dear opponent." Azrael said sharply and quietly, intensity filling the atmosphere."This is where I thrive." Azrael's grin got more sinister as he talked. "Have you any idea of who I am yet?

Pft. Who did this guy think he was talking to? Some average Joe? The grin remained pasted to his face as he stood there, arms crossed in anticipation. He had no intent of killing this being, otherwise it would have already been done. No, he just wanted to fight, to see what he was made of, to cure his boredome and thirst for bloodshed.

"Aren't we a bit arrogant?" Ironic, considering his own conceitedness up to this point. In a way, he was still confident in his abilities, though this time it wouldn't just be him causing damage.

A cocky grin, almost along the lines of insanity spread across Azrael's face as he regarded Jared through his silver eye's. Already he was feeling better, his eye's shining more vibrantly than they had in a long time. 'I had almost forgotten what it was like to be here,' He thought to himself observed Jared. His grin widdened as he realized that albiet Jared now realized he was powerful, He still had no idea who he was dealing with. His eye's sparked with the power that was steadily returning to him by the minute. He shrugged off his jacket no longer needing it, taking his time, feeling secure in his place. "You obviously don't know who you're dealing with, otherwise you wouldn't be feeling so... eager to be calling names," Azrael responded coolly.

As he ran his blade horizontally, he wasn't too surprised to find that Azrael had averted it. However, he hadn't expected him to disappear completely. "Formidable indeed..." he muttered to himself as he lowered his blade to his side. Looking around, he crossed his arms in disappointment and tapped his foot as he wondered if Azrael was somewhere nearby.

"Playing hide and seek now, are we?" He called out, waiting for a reply. After receiving none, he frowned and thought to check for his aura. A few moments ago, Azrael's aura had been shining brightly, but now, it was faded, almost transparent. "So that's where you ran off to..." he said more to himself than anyone else.

Vanishing into thin air, he found himself standing in the realm of the dead. Azrael stood before him, just as he had anticipated. Surrounded by sweeping willows with their branches dragging the ground and large, knarled trees reaching towards the sky, it was obvious the playing ground had changed. Azrael was probably significantly more powerful here, but Jared doubted it would do him much good. Wind blew the tail of his coat as a smirk crossed his lips. "So, you sly bastard. Figured you'd get the hands up on me, eh? Well, what are you waiting for?

Azrael turned his head frantically left and right as Jared's voice surrounded him from every direction. Suddenly he located Jared's power, as Jared apeared behind him. He could feel the movement of atoms in the air as Jared's sword swung down through the air. Time seemed to slow down as Azrael focused his energy on avoiding the approach of Jared's sword. Abruptly, Azrael disapeared, leaving the realm of the living and venturing into the realm of the dead.

He shuddered as he looked around. He hadn't been here for a long time and it was far from refreshing. If he had had his choice he would have never returned here. 'It's better to be here than dead,' he reflected to himself. Shuddering again as he cast a last glance around, he abided his time. He knew that Jared was a powerful being. And, being and as powerful as he appeared to be, Azrael figured that he would surely find his way to the land of the dead, Where Azrael would be waiting. Jared might have had the upper hand in the land of the living, but Azrael was the archangel of death. This was his realm, where he had control.

Still invisible to the naked eye, his voice echoed throughout the alley. "Having a bit of trouble, are we?" he taunted mischieviously. His eerie words were followed by faint laughter that seemed to float away with the wind, swirling past Azrael's ears before vanishing again. He wondered to himself if Azrael would show his true powers soon instead of just dancing about. Although it was rather underhanded, there was one way to find out...

Without warning, Jared appeared behind Azrael, the smooth edge of his blade held to his throat as he made an attempt to slash it across his neck. If he could get out of this pinch, perhaps he would be a formidable opponent afterall...

Azrael's eye's narrowed in suprise as Jared disapeared right in front of him. He whirled around frantically trying to spot this sinister being. 'C'mon, Concentrate," He thought to himself as he tried not to panick. He closed his eyes, taking a deep, trying to calm himself down enough to think.'C'mon pull some of your own tricks out of your sleeve,' he told himself, as he considered all of his options. He focused his thoughts on one thing, locating Jared's presence. He centered his thoughts on finding the spark of power that belong to noone but Jared. He frowned as he had difficulties finding it. "Why can't I find it," he gorwled angrily to himself. "I usually have no problem."

Anticipating Azrael would make another slash at him, he readied his dagger to meet the blade of his sword. Instead of feeling the pressure of another blade, however, he felt his jaw forced out of place from the hilt of Azrael's sword. The nerve! Slowly, he brought his left hand up and popped his jaw back in place, all the while glaring at his opponent. His once cool gaze now shifted to a deadly warning of bright yellow, showing how agitated he had become with that last move.

"Ooh, yes. Much better. I hope you're proud of yourself, because that's the last mistake you will ever make," he hissed cruely, the grip on his dagger tightening as it grew into a full-fledged sword that glowed an unnatural black. Running towards him, he made it look like he was about to slash him in the stomach, when suddenly, he disappeared...

Azrael leaped to his feet from his position on the ground where Jared had sent him sprawling. He crouched down into a defensive position, thinking about what the best manuvuer for attack should be. He suddenly lunged forward, spinning on his heel in one direction, making as if he was going to swing his sword at him from the right. At the last moment he pivoted on his foot, bring his sword up and slamming the hilt of it into Jared's face. "How's that?" Azrael growled at him as he sprang back preparing for Whatever onslaught Jared would execute. His eyes were narrowed in focus, watching his opponent with the keenness of a cat watching its prey. This was not a battle he would lose, not if he had anything to say about it.

A disappointed scowl stained his pale face as he once again watched the fire disappear into darkness.

"Well you're no fun, are you? Oh well, don't let it be said I didn't do the least I could do..." Bringing his hand from behind his back, he stopped Azrael's blade with his own dagger, and kicked him square in the face sending him flying backwards.

"Hah! You're going to have to do better than that!"

Azrael dived low, rolling to his feet near Jared, his sword that had been previously hidden now visible in his hand as he craftily dodged the fireball. " That's fairly nice of you, but I'd rather not, if you know what I mean." He replied back to Jared as he swung his sword at Jared's midsection, trying to buy precious seconds to formulate a plan of attack.
