All the way are good.I like alot when different weapon or armor are ¨¨hidden¨¨.
In Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest, to get the best equipment, you must often defeat countless monster to get a very rare drop like the magic Bikinie or the Mysterious hat (DW3/DQ3), search in dungeon, town and other to find medal and to exchange them for excellent items (DW4-DQ4 and +). etc..... |

I see what you mean Grey. Also like the trading sequences in Zelda games...
...which of course means I did forget something. Somewhat. |

Not just one sidequest, like, you have to do a bunch of them in succession as they progress (moogle mail and the protect ring, anyone?). But unlike, say, the coffee mixes in FFIX, you should be able to pick them up at any time. Kinda like the final sidequests that you have to deal with in Chrono Trigger, before downing the Black Omen. |

Doing a side-quest , they r the best. So much fun and adds playability |

I guess it gets kinda frustrating slaughtering the same enemies for several hours just waiting for a special item. *coughPSOcough* |

Tales of Phantasia spoilers
Spoiler:
What was weird was, in the Lower tier of the Moria Gallery, the boss was far, far easier than the dungeon, which was difficult to navigate and had the strongest monsters in the game. You were more likely to die from a random encounter then the boss... you got the most powerful balanced weapon in the game at the bottom, but there was a dropped item with a stronger stab, but far weaker slash. Like anyone would pick a rare drop as their favorite method anyway |

Extra-secret, extra-hard extra dungeon, especially if there's an extra-hard boss at the bottom. |

finding the secret dungeons and acquiring it. Usually, they aren't on sale now are they? Although, I like to customize the "legendary weapon" though, but that requires luck in getting the right material to do it I guess? |

I chose finding it in the final dungeon, but I think what's best is if it's a character-driven sidequest. That is, some special sequence of events specific to the character that makes sense as to why they get a great weapon out of it. |

Originally posted by DarkSlaya Hmm, I voted for that too but I should´ve thought about it some more. Maybe there should be a choice that says: Facing an incredibly strong boss after clearing a secret dungeon. Anyway, hard bosses will do too. |

Gameshark.
(ok, ok.... hidden debug mode that gives super-items not obtainable in the normal game?) |

Either in the final dungeon (like say ... FFIV), or during a huge long side quest. That way, you feel like all your work was worth it. |

Originally posted by Skydude Only shitty games make the weapon harder to get than beating the final boss with that weapon. I don't think I have a favorite way of getting an ultimate weapon, I do like good side quests that deal with the character that gets the weapon. Maybe it is a long dungeon and a hard boss, maybe it is just a series of cut-scenes, maybe it is a series of cut-scenes that establish a shop where you can buy the ultimate weapon from. I don't think you should auto-matically get the ultimate weapon just by going through the game though. You should be able to get really good weapons, but I think they should be eventually be upgradable to the ultimate weapon or something instead. |

Originally posted by Skydude THANK YOU!!! So my choices? RELEVENT sidequest (I don't want to be given Excalibur for finding some kid's lost dog then talking to his future self, that just doesn't make sense. =/), hidden chest in final dungeon, or Other - Some sort of treasure hunting (like in FFIX, with the chocobo). |

Anything that extends the content of the game: Extra dungeons, gradual upgrading, and freaking-hard bosses, in that order. Sticking it in as a rare drop makes it a monotonous task to get and makes getting it more of a relief than an accomplishment *coughswordofkings* |

I picked "Clearing a hidden dungeon", even though those normally have a uber-boss at the bottom anyway. |

The problem with getting it from a really hard secret boss and/or dungeon is that it kind of defeats the point. Once your powerful enough to beat the boss/dungeon that's really hard, you really have no use for the power afforded you by having this incredibly powerful weapon. |
