Take your time on it, and make it sweet. I'm sure you will; I also make interesting level design; everyone else is into the ExGFX. I've played "Panic in the mushroom kingdom", but it's very repeatitive in it's level design, the only thing going good in that hack was the awesome graphics but that was it, but guys like you and me make the game actually fun, good luck! |

That does look good dude! I am curious though.... What's the different between red and blue? (Reminds me of Pokemon, but it could be cool and neat) |

How about now?
I updated the rope area...Dose it look more interesting? Well, heres a spoiler... Spoiler:
The top left has broken parts of ground floating and being tied by rope to station land, as the left tube leads to an area that is all floating ground. The levels will be extensive, count on it ; No, they wont connect 8D Red/Blue is only the WIP name...It will most likely change... |

So if you connect the games by a cable can you trade mario-mon between them? ![]() |

Good Level desing is what drives a good Platformer.
The level looks interessting, and not crap. But you may use different things than red & blue version, when you allready do two different Super Mario World Hacks. |

![]() Yea, I figured I would get these kind of reviews... And yea, what I ment was that my HACKS failed. Should of made it more clear. It wasnt the programs that failed me, it was my interest in the hacks. And I didn't give up on ASM, the person who actually cared to teach me has been missing for awhile, and I would gladly pull out my old notes in my notebook, and learn more, but I need to be tought from someone else. Reading for learning dosn't work for me.... And unoriginal? Yes. Red and Blue isnt original. What else do I have to choose? ![]() Maybe I should take up programming then and make my own games. EDIT: Changed my mind, thanks Grey ![]() |

Originally posted by [GGS Cruel Justice In a way, he's pretty much right. This forum has apparently surpassed normal graphics. With all the *latest technology* (ExGFX, ASM, HDMA, etc.) it seems that original graphics don't cut it anymore - same goes with enemies and effects: they just don't do it. Next thing you know we'll be seeing a SMW hack just like SM64, and before we know it we'll have friggin Paper Mario walking all over this forum. I'm not saying I disagree, all the ExGFX and stuff looks MUCH better than the old graphics, but people do also need to realize that level design is an important factor too. I look at that screen, and I think *That looks fun to play* but sadly, most others don't. (P.S. the first two ropes in that screen are cut off on the left side) I look forward to seeing more of this S&T, even if I don't see anything fancy ![]() |

I think that screen put your autobiography to waste. Reading through the beginning, (mentally) I thought I heard the Metal Gear Solid intro until I saw the screen.
Unless you can labotomize everyone's brain on the board to the point where they revert back to the "old days", you're not making a breakthrough. You're just regurgitating the old and glorifying it through text. The programs haven't failed you, you failed the programs if you just give up. Again, you also gave up on ASM, you have failed twice! :O Red and Blue edition. You couldn't be more original Ash Ketchum. Really, why care if you're using a lack of time as an excuse to not make something different, let alone think of a better name? Either you want to hack or you don't. |

Well, the aim wasn't to just make a hack with no ExGFX...
If I wanted to, I very well could! But, to keep with the theme, I want to stay stray of ExGFX, and make a hack that is based around good gameplay and solid level design, as those are the two things early SMW hacks had, BEFORE the wonders of ExGFX and other things that were later implemented. I want to make this fun, unlike some people who want to make SMW hacks with character replacement, impossible levels, garbage levels, or into a whole new game etc. Im not going for something unique here, like hacks that are MENT for no ExGFX. I am going for what we loved when we found out about Mario World hacking way back when, and how we saw peoples hacks and dreamed of becoming as good as them. Trust me, I used to think Acmlm's SMW hack was god-like, and I always wanted to be like Ace. So instead of make a hack that replicates older hacks and their style, Im making one that reminds us of them. Kind of along the same lines, but different in terms of design. Thanks for the feedback though, replys encourage me to work more on things like this ![]() |

Finally a Hack with no ExGfx |

After 2 3/4 years away from SMW Rom Hacking, I have reemerged. After my first failed attempt at SMW Hacking (Mario's Chance), I quickly attempted other ideas, and failed to show any effort on those eather. These ideas ranged from Sonic in Mario, Time Trial Races, and some stupid Stickman...In Mario. After these ideas died and dropped from my mind, I learned that, maybe SMW just wasn't right for me. So I moved on. I looked into many different Level Editors for something to edit Yoshi's Island(Of course, with constant help from GoYo on the way ![]() -------- Now that I am over with my life story about Rom Hacking, here is the first LevelShot(LevelShot meaning larger then a regular screenshot and showing more of the level) to be released to anyone, of "What We Loved! - Red Edition". Wait...No ExGFX? Nope. Not on my watch. These are Hacks about "What We Loved!" Remember when a Rom Hack was a simple level hack with maybe a few graphic changes and it became an instant classic, enjoyed by the masses? Well I do. Specifically GoYo's early hacks, and a few other stray ones I played back in the day. These Hacks will be centered around Level Design, and basically Level Design only. So that LevelShot is whatever level it becomes to be in the Red Edition. You may notice that there are only 4 Dragon Coins, and this is because the level continues far past this LevelShot. Also, hidden things are not shown, as to not spoil anything, and thus, are missing from the LevelShot. And last thing, in the top left part of the LevelShot (That word is annoying now isn't it ![]() Progress on Blue Edition is also into production, sadly, with no picture. It almost has a level done also, and the start of a changed overworld. So, if you have beared with me this long, then I would like to say thanks for reading, and hopefully I can get some feedback on what I have so far, and what is going to be done. |
