And it hogs system resources.

And the free version is highly limited.

Doesn't it do other things, like swap boot screens and provide some sort of API for working with the theme system? I know there's some theme creator program that requires it. That might just be because they're made by the same company and want you to buy both, but you never know.

StyleXP is also pretty expensive considering that all it does is patch uxtheme.dll in memory (pro: service packs don't wipe out the hack; cons: quite a bit of resources needed compared to patching it on-disk).

The patched uxtheme.dll thing has the advantage of taking no additional resources or having to run a programm all the time. Windows' default Luna Theme already uses more RAM than the Classic Theme, but any other theme does not use any more resources.

Style XP might be fine, but if you have low resources like not sufficient RAM, I won't recommend it.

If you use a hacked utxtheme.dll you can get all sorts of them, and it doesn't cost anything. I particularly like some of the themes that come with StyleXP, but I dunno if it's legal to give them out separately.

guessing you have SP2, you need to find a hacked uxtheme.dll or some file that is named along those lines to install external themes. Although, if you have a program such as styleXP or windowblinds, that should be taken care of.

I've got Windows XP (Finally), Professional Edition, and I'm wondering how to properly install any Windows XP themes. I've been trying for a few days now, but it doesn't work. I want these themes so that my Windows environment looks alot better than that crappy look it has right now.

Any help? Good themes?
