I think it uses the SFX to actually move Yoshi back and forth to match the ground's waviness. The waving itself is just HDMA though.

Notice something even nastier? If the game is hooked up through a game genie, the game saves vanish.

Also, the fuzzy dizzyness doesn't use the SuperFX2 chip to do the effect.

They did on my SNES. I certainly would have noticed.

....I think.

But definitely the 3D stuff in the castles worked.

...Pretty sure.

Duh. Why didn't I think of that?

...Don't answer that. Anyway, yeah, go find some place with rotating sprites and see if they rotate properly.

I don't know how it physically works, since the Game Genie doesn't seem to have any connectors for those chips on the sides (though it does have empty slots for them to fit), yet it does work. I had Game Genie and YI, and I used them together. Used the code to get 100 on all the levels (I was a kid, don't player hate on me ). I think I erased all my saved games at one point screwing around with it.

I believe that the SFX also allowed the game to rotate sprites at will, do the fancy 3D blocks, and possibly just plain allow better processing...

You sure it does? Those extra connectors should be for the SuperFX... can't think of what sorts of effects in that game I know used it, but they might not work. (Two things that come to mind are Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy and the Raphael Raven battle, but the former could be done with HDMA (though SFX might handle actually acting like the ground was moving) and the latter could possibly be be a Mode 7 trick.)

how does SMW2:YI work with a game genie ? it has those extra sets of connectors but other games with those dont.

(and could someone give me some weird SMW game genie codes?)
