I have to agree with all the rules.

Too many times i have seen dumbass questions from people that are not even trying to learn.

People not even trying to read all the help threads first.

Im sick of it.

I ran from here because of the stupid crap.

I am also sick of people complaining about the little things in a hack, get over it.

Like they hate a tone of color or crap like that.

Just the little things like are ticking me off.
Do you think Nintendo puts up with people comlpaining about every little thing? Nope.

Anyhow, that is all i have to say for now.

There's a difference between "respected member making a request" and "member making a respectable request". You got an actual WIP for this idea and I got no problem.

You're right about the JAMH thing. That request thread did not suck. But I feel confident that if we let request threads linger we'll get a good amount of "I want this but my hack will never appear and you'll never see me here again." That both discourages people willing to help and simply annoys those of us not willing.

On that note, it was decided a little bit ago that before effectively trashing the Crap Threads, we would leave them up on the board for a couple of days to give the original creator time to actually find out what reason we provided for getting rid of it.

Ah, I didn't catch that memo. That does eliminate them from clogging the archives, which I seriously think is a problem. Just think what it would be like if we had a straight list of topics ranging from "Lunar Magic 1.51 released" to "Redrawing every sprite...", no nonsense inbetween.

Still, is the one-in-20 chance of newbie redemption worth trash on the front page for the rest of us? If crap still gets moved out of the way before it becomes a permanent fixture I'm happy with the current situation, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

I disagree. "Hey, would anybody mind helping me out? My graphics talents are next to unexistant, and I need a nice night sky background. etc." is less lame than the alternative but still pretty annoying. It doesn't add anything and doesn't guarantee a response adding anything.

If the hacker has a hack that isn't worth a thread of its own and requests things that he/she can't do himself do you really expect this request, assuming it's completed in the first place, to be used for a decent purpose? I guess more people wanting the same thing might show up but we're already in unlikely territory here.

I say to hell with all requests. Put them in a big thread or something.
Using myself as an example again, in a couple of weeks I'll be posting a request for competent level designers to join me on JAMH. Would you allow a seperate thread asking for assistance, or lump it in with everyone's "please draw my gfx kthxdie" requests? Not that I would expect special treatment because I'm on staff, but I would hope by now I'm a somewhat well respected member of the SMW community and a request coming from such a member wouldn't be looked at with scorn.

Also, more things should be sent to SMW Hacking Crap instead of sitting around like the locked bastards they are taking up space from the not stupid topics. That is all.

There have been multiple cases already of new members recreating threads over and over and OVER again because we kept trashing their threads. Could this be solved in another way? Probably, but why send a PM when the final post in the thread should contain the reason for the deletion.

It's decided, then. If the "collaboration" request is phrased well enough to not be considered a flat-out demand (this will be decided on a case-by-case basis and subject to moderator discretion) it is allowed... unless said request is for ExGFX of ANY sort, in which case it belongs in the sticky ExGFX Request thread by BMF.

Does that sound fair to everyone? It get's the JJ Stamp of Approval, if that means anything.

Edit: I also added an addendum of sorts to the first post of this thread, just to clear up some potential confusion. Comments, anyone?

Well, I went ahead and made a new ExGFX request thread (before I even read this discussion ), so...yeah. I think all requests should be posted in there, to help keep the forum uncluttered. That was one of the biggest problems with the old forum, an overabundance of nearly identical threads that could've easily been combined into one.

I think this thread should be moved back to SMW hacking and changed to a all-prupose request thread

Accepted:

"Hey, would anybody mind helping me out? My graphics talents are next to unexistant, and I need a nice night sky background. Any help would be appreciated"

Unaccepted:

"d00ds make a hax 4 me or DIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEI u all sux ur lame u shuld be proad that i alow u 2 help me on my hax fukin loserz!!!!!1111111111 off coarse u wont get 2 get creditzorzed CUS ITS MY HAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111 i pwn u at all shut up n do it or ill hax exkepers acount and banz u all"

I think that requesting help (as in asking people to do something for your hack) should be allowed, as long as the question is asked in a nice way (like in the "accepted" example).

I think that a graphics request thread might be good. (Maybe not right now, but in the future.) Sort of like the old ExGFX Workshop thread.

I say we should allow requests, but impose restrictions on them so that it is not possible for any old person to get help. What the requirements for being able to make requests is debateable, although a good chunk of it should be based on your previous work. For instance, if you released a demo of a hack with good level design (based off public opinion), but with no ExGFX, you might be permitted to ask for help with ExGFX. We don't want anything too complicated though, so it's up to you.

Rule Proposal Requests - Yay or nay?

Rather than keep the discussion confined to Staff Only forums, I decided I bring up the topic here so the Average User can add his/her two cents. How does everyone feel about request threads? What I mean are threads that call for someone to do specific mod work for someone else. Examples are here and here. They both are more or less demand graphics be made. Should this sort of thing be allowed? Restricted? Banned? Can only a user with an established modificiation or modification skills be able to request help from fellow modders? I've been meaning to post a request for competent level designers to be brought onto the JAMH project, is this something I should be allowed to do?

Responses required, or staff will dictate our own policy (which may or may not be something anyone wants).

Newbie: Someone who's new to something.
n00b: Stupid newbie who can't handle constructive criticism, nor realizing his own knowledge and other flaws.

"(I said newbie, not n00b, meaning people who are new and untrained.)"
The last part of that described (and was supposed to describe) newbies, not n00bs. I guess that I could have worded it better.

There was a different topic where people actually sat down and discussed the finer points of the newbie/newb/n00b relationship, and that is the conclusion they reached.

On a completely off-topic note, I think it's more usually the case that "newbie" refers to a genuine new user, whereas "noob" or "n00b" is the derogatory "idiot" term.
That's how I've always understood it, too.

That's the spirit! I wasn't saying the forum should be ruled with an iron fist. Just that one last chance is fine; 10 chances, not quite so. How can people learn from their mistakes if they are not pointed out, at the least?

I clarified the rules a bit (it's in bold, #1).

JJ: No problem with you giving out one warning, first. Just let us know when you do.

My condolences, I'm glad back in the day I was asked to be SMW Mod instead of one for Pokemon .

But make no mistake, you hidden malcontents (I know you exist!), I will punish you to the fullest extent of my powers for violating the new forum rules. So try to behave.

In my defense, I'm way too much of a nice guy. Ya know, always giving someone at least one last chance before writing them off. After all, not everyone is as quick to grasp the finer points of social and hacking etiquette around here, but I don't believe they should be completely excluded from the community because of it. Is this the wrong attitude for a moderator to have on Acmlm's, where users are supposed to "Live the fun posting experience"? I dunno, maybe.

Before some wiseacre chimes in, I realize there is a pretty thick line between the users who don't have a clue to begin with, and those that actively pursue not having a clue.

Help us help you. Take pride in your community! Stop the insanity!@#$%

In my defence, I tried to save Pokemon hacking. Heck, help us help you will probably end up on my tombstone I've said it so much .__.;; there's no hope for some things. Let's hope you have better luck here than in my forum =\
