Something for the stat-whors then.

I admit, I love fine-tuning my cities in Simcity4 and watch the graphs over commute times and such.

I want to make love to this game.

I didn't realise until about 20 minutes in that it was by the maker of Sim City...

Heh. Anyways, he said other "players", so wouldnt that mean there would be some kind of MMO on it?

Damn..."The game will periodically go onto the net and automatically download stuff made by other players. Apparently next to everything you see in the game will be player made as opposed to being included on the CD. You can even get a little thing that tells you how your creations are doing with other players, how many people have seen them, how many people have destroyed them or made alliances with them, etc. This way, says Wright, you'll be able to play with other player's creations (and they yours), while still being able to do anything you want and not ruining the experience for the other person. Ex. if you're powerful enough, you can blow anyone to smithereens. So it's not true live multiplayer"

Looks like one of the best games invented! Can't wait to get this game I wish they'd make more games like this.

I wonder what happens if you use the Genesis device on an already populated planet...

Yeah, the taking is indeed automated. I think it sounds like a really interesting system, allowing you to get some of the benefits of a multiplayer game without needing to implement that.

It isn't even multiplayer... You just take the stuff from other people's worlds to add to your universe so your universe isn't lonely.

You guys realize it isn't MMO, right...

If you can indeed do that, I think it would be a great addition. As fun as it'll be to do some of the more advanced features, I've found that in some cases some of the base-level sort of things can be a lot of fun. And it might be nice to do a game where what you do for quite some time is build up a few civilizations from different species, and have them grow and communicate with each other by means of the computer...while you just add more to the fray.

And I may decide to do a "death star" game at some point, making it one lonely universe.

That is, you build up a civilization, and then build up other species to populate the planet, in the midst of the more advanced dealings of these sentient ones.

The guy mentioned something about being able to slide vertically through the stages of the game or something, so that's very possible.

Something tells me some people are just going to go around blowing up other people's planets.

We'll really have to wait and see just how great it is, especially considering there could be a lot of changes between this and the final release, for better or worse.

I know I'm a bit late on this, but I just watched the video, and...wow. Just...wow. That looks absolutely amazing. And I think it really adds a lot to have Will Wright narrating what's going on during this, more than just a basic gameplay video alone would, and telling his inspirations and such.

I imagine it'll be murder on most computers, though, to load all this stuff.

Well, the beginning's supposed to be more goal oriented, and apparently when you reach the end THEN you can have fun with pretty much total customization. That's the incentive.

I'll probably enjoy the begining more than I will enjoy the later stages. The customization will be godly though. In fact, I demand someone hosts a "Who had the most kickass/funniest/goofiest/coolest species" thread.

Well it depends how far ahead the game is in development. If you keep thinking of new ideas and adding things, then of course it's going to miss release in 2006. :\

The one good thing is that nobody's going to rush someone with the credentials of Wright to finish the game by a certain date. He has as much time as he wants I'd think.

When I saw the title, I knew which game it talked about. Being a major Will wright fan (I probably don't have to mention how much I love the Simcity series and the other sim games) Though there hadn't been many news about it, as Will wright dosen't hype much. And seems like he got alot freedom over the game, considering how big cash cow the sims series is.

Apart from that video, not much is known about the game. Dosen't surprise me if they extended it gameplay wise and all.

Colin, while that would be nice i'm not too surprised if it winds up being a 2007 release. I don't want another Simcity4 scandal. While it was a wonderful game, a few game elements were broken until the second patch came around. Though it's one of the best games ever now, with it's expansion pack.

The more important question... is this going to make release by the end of 2006?

It's a really ambitious game however... if it lives up to what Wright promises, look out.
