Mine overheated when I first built it. Did pretty much the same thing, actually. Took one side panel off and pointed a fan at it. That went over reeeeeeal well with the roommates.

It falls over the other way, so no.... still got the CPU down to 38 degrees celcius... which is cold.... so the problem wasn't overheating.

Well, I was under the impression I had an overheating problem a while back...

This was my way of eliminating that as a possible cause of the problem...

Wow! That doesn't look good.
What I would do is get some one to fit that in a case, or something.
How that still works, I have no Idea. (Also I would keep pets away from that.)

The one in my Win98 box doesn't seem to care, and it's pretty old.

I thought you weren't supposed to run hard drives upside-down like that? Or do newer drives just not care?

Jeez, maybe I'm older than I thought...

My roommate this past semester totally had a similar "bunch of components outside the case" setup.

Reminds me when my dad had to test a old HD on a computers. There were connectors for one, but proper place. So we had to put it outside the case while making sure it worked then I think we winded up ducktaping it somewhere.

Also, while one of the HD is writing something... try shaking it really hard. See if you can cause a head crash. (note, doing that is very fatal. It destroy the HD as it xD.)

I'll see your open computer and raise you my Win98 testing box. Literally a computer in a cardboard box. HDD/CD/Floppy and power supply sit on the floor next to it. It has a video card, but I just control it with VNC.

You have a case, everything might not be in it, but you have one, that puts your computer one peg above my MythTV, which is literally a stack of components by my TV.
