Y'know, Mr. Anderson's knowledge of basic hacking techniques doesn't seem to match up with his online persona.

Can I throw him in the path of an oncoming train?

Hex editing can be used to edit EVERYTHING in a ROM. Absolutely EVERYTHING. There's nothing in the ROM that can't be edited with a Hex Editor.

I use Hex Workshop and also my little brewed hex editor. I also at times use a old Dos based one when doing hacking on my old 486 lol!

WindHex32 does just about everything Translhextion does better, plus it has better Japanese support for the translating types.

Translhextion is nice for pretty much everything Hex Workshop doesn't do (and is free, unlike HW); that is, it has table support. (HW can do a form of basic tables, if you want to put them all in manually using its own special format and editor, but yeah. ) It has some minor graphic bugs, but it works well (and unlike Hexecute, doesn't have a huge memory leak).

I use Hex Workshop. Tons of handy features there.

Also, check out my hex tutorial in the SMW hacking section. It should help you undertstand hex a fair bit.

I've been using XVI32 for editing multiple games lately, and I've not run into any problems...

WindHex32 is pretty much a feature-loaded modern day version of Hexecute.

Also, read this, it should help you out.

I use Visual Studio and SNESEdit mostly. And TextPad if I don't need to edit.

Also, this is more like general rom hacking.

Erm ....

Download Hexecute here - http://www.zophar.net/trans/transutils/Hexecute-3.0-RC7-install.exe as it's probably the easiest to use and has the best table support.

As far as I know hex doesn't require any knowledge except for how to press buttons on a keyboard
