Controls were awkward as hell at first. I somehow ended up flying my ship upside-down for awhile and couldn't get back up. I hate those red hogships and theives. They are by far the most annoying enemies.

Ahhh, might be why I have a bias over that game.

Becuse I learnt the controls fully, and looking back I can actually understand why people would get confused over them. No other game uses similar setup (It's all WASD+mouse now), though I know the control setup by heart even now.

I liked Freespace. Speaking of which, didn't X-Wing and Tie Fighter predate Descent?

When I was young I used to play that game and it was awesome. There was a boss that he is invisible then appears that is the only way I could attack him I think, but I think he had a force field around him. He was tough back then because I wasn't as aggressive back then than now. Now I would kick his ass because he kills me a whole bunch.

I played the first descent a long time ago on my friend's computer. It wasn't too bad at the time. I didn't play it too much though and only remember my friend's over extended ramblings about the game.

I didn't like too much, but maybe that's just me.

Hmm, I think I´ve only played Descent 3 and I liked it the little time I played it.

I should see if I can find Descent 1+2 on the net.

There's a version designed to work well on XP out there. I could wire you up with it if you'd like. However, the only problem is that it crashes often when there is a lot going on some PCs (sometimes even a little). It works fine for the most part on my laptop, but on my desktop, it bugs out often. One in particular is that when you enter a Catwalk area (IE: Most of Level 26), your controls bug out. Everything else works perfectly fine, however. It may just be my computer, as I mentioned before.

Descent + Descent II > Doom1+2

Nuf said.

It's my favorite games, hell I actually liked Descent 3. I made levels for all games, although didn't make much for Descent 3 apart from a few rooms but I made a few decent levels for the two first games.

I've only played the PSX Descent. I loved the music, and I bought it the other day, brand new for under $5. I ripped the tunes using PSmplay and promptly burned them.

I should really play the PC versions, I enjoyed the game quite a bit, but eventually the levels got bigger than my memory would allow.

i've always liked this game, but I never had the controls to play (nor the ability to deal with the 3D )

Mehish game for me.

I had it, gave it to a friend.

It didn't appeal to me.

Played #1 all the way through Played the shareware and was hooked while I started getting into those CDs full of DOS games. Never got to play 2 though, played the demo of 3 and thought the controls were way too clunky.

I remember the commercials that touted it as a Doom-killer.

DESCENT: 360 DEGREES OF ROTATION.
DOOM: 0 DEGREES.
360 IS GREATER THAN 0.

DESCENT. NOT EQUAL TO DOOM. GREATER THAN.

As for me personally, I played Descent on PSX. I don't recall being particularly impressed.

Yeah, I loved the Descent series. Descent 2 was good, Descent Freespace was too different, and then 3 tried to be the same as 2, but it was horrible. They started making a 4, but it was cancelled sometime last year I believe.

Damn, that game was awesome. It was the first (non-crappy) 360 degree 3D game ever. So many memories of playing it as a child. Like that Level 7 boss. Good times...good times.
