Lots of it was just pointer moving and changing (so that certain pipes went elsewhere, and so on) .... but really, this page explains most of the bugs/glitches in it (and normal SMB, too -- these can be used anywhere and are just limitations of the SMB engine)

My Site has bugs and glitches for both SMB2J and SMB1.

Go look at my first post, that's how they did it, if it's not documented you're going to have to figure out how yourself. I do seem to remember there being some patches to add some features to the game, but the only one I can think of right now is "Luigi Game" by Yy, which added the option to play as SMB2j-style Luigi in SMB1.

What I'm wondering about is things as I mentioned in the original post: changing the number of worlds/levels in a world, one-way blocks you can pass through, etc. I noticed one thing which I put to good use, though: you can bounce a mushroom using brick blocks.

AP had this. I'm sure you can learn from AP or even myself since I make levels without anyone's help.

Short answer: Hex editing.

Long answer: Disassembling and reverse-engineering the code, trial and error, hit and miss hex editing, etc.

Some of it has probably been documented by now, but that's how most people find any data in a game.

I was looking through the SMB-Air hack in SMBUtility, and I'm wondering how to do a LOT of the things it has: changing the level orders, blocks you can pass through one-way (see 1-1) and some more things like that. How can I do this in my hack?
