Well not every thread is just the thread creater asking a question and every reply answering it. Sometimes there's actual discussion. In which case a one word post may be appropriate. I'd much rather read a short concise post, rather than a full page long winded essay, where the author clearly ran out of things to say two sentances in.

Also, about the first post, what is this about anyway? Are you saying something should be done about it, or are you just venting?

Can it contain images and other crap? How about that time the one person posted "lol" and stole people's passwords a long time ago? I could give a good one word post depending on the topic and what I have to consider. Here's possibly the best example:

Some one makes a thread saying: Haha you fags you've just been hacked! Lawls!
Some one replies with a one word post saying: Pwned.
Admin comes in and says with yet another one word post: ASSHOLES!
Then Xk shoots them in the head.

Really, I could attempt to make a good one word post. It would be hard and would require great timing.

One-word posts can be good posts. They're just usually not.

I don't really agree with what was said in the first post. I mean, following the example you gave, if a person says they don't use a phone, that's on topic. Just because they can't answer the poll question or whatever doesn't make them a bad poster. As long as it's not a one word post, or spammy somehow, there's nothing wrong. They're contributing to the thread with their own answer.

Not really.

The thread is discussing what can be called a bad posting habit that occurs throughout the board.

Just because the past two days has been filled with non-stop crap doesn't mean this thread is worthless. It still serves a purpose.

It does, so would'nt that make this thread worthless therfore adding to the problem?

Given the events of the past two nights, this seems like a particularly insignificant issue.

It's not like each of those posts scream "postcount++" anyway.

Wasted post - "I don't use telephones." (Yay! One post for me!)

I think in that instance, the member would not be contributing to the thread. That's just my opinion.

You have a clear grasp of the obvious.

As long as the post stays somwhere around the topic and isnt complete nonsense then there shouldnt be anything to worry about.

Yes, it is quite annoying, but I hardly think it's worth a full-scale investigation. For the most part, the people who do that sometimes likely do it a decent amount, and thus are liable to be banned for spamming/trolling anyway as it should be rather obvious. If they barely do it, well, then it's not that much of a problem, and scrolling past their post is hardly an issue, though it might be worth just telling them in a PM. The only "danger" from that is that if they're immature they may downrate you, but that's not really much of a concern.

I do find this quite annoying when it happens repeatedly in the same situations. My top example is people in Anya and Elmo's corner who post in threads about what sex positions they prefer, when they've never had sex. (Cruel Justice's mock example is probably a thinly veiled version of mine.) It's very irritating when someone posts and they have absolutely nothing to add to the thread, and yet they feel compelled to tell everyone they have nothing to add.

For example, you don't see me posting in the Wrestling sticky in Movie's & Entertainment. I don't watch wrestling = I don't post there. It's that simple. If I did post there, all I could say is that I thought it sucked and I don't see the appeal. Stuff like that falls into two categories, spam and trolling.

I think that alone is the perfect solution. If you don't like someone's post, hit the page down button, and continue reading.

Unless, of course, it's a direct flame or troll, in which case you should copy the link and inform a mod/admin.

But yes, ignoring posts is very easy, and generally keeps things going.

Although I agree with you to some extent, you're looking at the picture with a pessimistic view. You made it look as though everyone who announces that they don't (do X) in a topic of that nature is spamming for postcount. That is true in some cases, but in many cases, it is not. With your example, the user would usually supply reasons as to why they don't use telephones. They might say "I don't use telephones. Most of my communication is done via AIM, Email, or in-person. Sometimes, I use the postal service. In the rare case that I do have to use a telephone, I usually opt for a payphone."

...

As I mentioned, your example wasn't exactly the best one. But the point remains that people will usually give reasoning behind why they don't [...] in those topics. If not, they will usually get banned if they continue to do that. Failing that, just learn to tolerate it. There will always be those lamers around that seem to be boardering on breaking the rules, but technically aren't doing anything wrong. If you can't do that, well...let's just say you won't be able to control your temper at times.

Well they're just trying to give their thoughts on a topic. If they don't use telephones, and the thread is about telephones.. I'd say it was alright. However, I think they should probably go into why they don't use telephones.

That's all in a hypothetical situation though. So, replace telephones with whatever you please.
