Well, descrambling "PESU MIRMA 64O" using CDAB would yeild "SUPEIR M 6MA 4O", which isn't anywhere close to being correct... I'm not sure what this file is trying to say. |

As far as I know, there's ".z64", ".v64", and the lesser-known ".rom"
And yeah, oddly enough, It indeed is, "PESU MIRMA", note the extra M. |

I just checked, uCon64 can switch between the formats. |

"PESU MIRMA 64O" is short an "R" and has an extra "M"... Are you sure that's what it says?
"USEP RAMIR O64" is in BADC order, which is what the Dr. V64 dump utility used. As such, they call this a "V64 format" ROM. I guess the makers of the unit figured the N64 was little-endian like just about everything else, but it's not. The MIPS R4300i RISC processor in the N64 is big-endian. "SUPER MARIO 64" is the unscrambled, ABCD order which has come to be known as "Z64 format" from what I suppose was another backup unit. This is the one you'll want your files to be in when hacking. I've never seen any CDAB ordering before... Does anyone have more information on why files might show up that way? |

Looks like it's byte swapped, there should be a utility to take care of that. |

The reason many N64 ROM have weird byte orders has to do with early copiers that output funny byte orders. The first ROM is in BADC order and the second is in CDAB order. ABCD order is the preferred order for hacking. There are tools to fix the order. Check Dextrose and acmlm.org for them. |

USEP RAMIR 064 = SUPE RMARI 064 = SUPER MARI0 64
maybe they are different versions |

I suggest you get new ROMs then. I just opened my SM64 ROM in a hex editor and "SUPER MARIO 64" displays fine for me. Maybe you have a beta or edited ROM? |

Well, I decided to play with Super Mario 64 again, so I opened up my Rom folder.
I found out that I had deleted it, so I downloaded some new roms, as well as Super Mario 64. Now, I found 2 SM64 Roms. I opened them both in HEXEdit, and the one of the first words are "USEP RAMIR 064". In the other Rom, "PESU MIRMA 640". ... Why? Why isn't it "SUPER MARIO 64"? Are there many other kinds of Roms? I've heard about the ABCD thing, but I don't know much, so help would be appreciated. |
