Hold on

There's a concern over selling NON-EXCLUSIVE rights?

You mean you don't want some exposure that not only do you not pay for, but you will be paid for it?

And you're worried about selling out.. are you serious? Selling out is when you would, say, draw something you are morally opposed to for the sake of money. Such as you drawing anti-furry propoganda.

Well, I disagree. And I don't really see it as, "selling out".

But I must ask, why exactly can't you charge by the hour? I'm sure they are willing to be accommodating if the payment metrics are reasonable.

I approve of the idea of not selling rights to your Tarale character.
This all basically depends on how much they want to pay for exclusive art, if it will be worth your time or not.

I think you did the right thing, it's a personal character to you, not for anyone else. I would rather do another character as a commission, than have something you first made up go to someone else, to me it just seems risky.

With the fee though, it would depend on how much time it would take you to do up this character and also how many drawings you would have to do.

I believe you could accomplish alot more managing your artwork on your own. I think you should be the boss. Well said!

Not much

Just do what ever you feel the bare minimum that is allowable. I mean, think of it this way, you have fans that are now willing to pay. Don't gouge them

My response

Naty,

Unfortunately I am not willing to sell rights to any of the Tarale artworks, as Tarale is a personal character of mine.

However, if you would like some artwork I am able to do commissioned, custom artwork for you. Provide me with some guidelines as to what you would like, and I will draw it for you. You may have full exclusive rights to that artwork then.

Please advise on this, so that we can discuss fees, etc.

Regards,

Taryn

I also put a PS stating that I'm on leave, just so they don't wonder why I won't reply before the 5th... I are going on holiday, yay! *dances* I holiday

Hmm, and speaking of fees, I have NO idea what to charge either. o.o

This is a great idea. If they like the character style, they may be happy with a different character who looks similar, especially if it is a unique piece of work. I completely understand not wanting someone else to use what is essentially a self-portrait. I don't think I would grant rights to that, either.

That's because that's exactly what I suggested.
He even said that, jeeze.

I got an idea when I looked at Exploding Kittens's post. Why donīt you draw something else for them if you donīt want to use Tarale for it?

You could draw a mascot for the that fits the society the game is from.

I donīt think you should sell Tarale but thatīs up to you, though.

Argh, Sudoku. I swear, there's a whole section at my mall for Sudoku. T_T

Meh, it's one of thoose things I wouldn't mind if it was a friend of mine but which I would hesitate on if it was a complete stranger. He could always ask for a custom one, in a similar style. >>

So I would offer making custom art. o.o Really, a "fursona" is something very personal most of the time and shouldn't be a Trademark.

My statement mimic's danielle's. Really, if you're uncomfortable with the idea of "selling out" Tarale, do something else for them that's similar and see if they like it.

A little exposure couldn't hurt. And if you get some money out of the deal, hey, its all good!

It can still be your fursona if you let them use it.

But if you'd rather not, offer to make some art exlusive for them, see if they like it. A little variation to Tarale, but still the same look that they like.

I'd take it, but then again, I don't have a fursona that I'm attached to.

you never know, if you do let him use them, and the game makes its rounds around, you may get more offers for people to use other art, and then you can rake in alot more money. but like everyone said, its up to you, and im sure, with your talent, if you wanted to im sure theres alot of other people who would actually buy any art you make.

so it just comes down to, do you want those two drawings sold to him, or not.

personally, I think I would just to see how it turns out.

Depends how much we're talking about here... I mean, if someone offered you $5,000 or something (which would be insane but still), I could see you taking it.

...Unless the game becomes really popular and traffic goes to your website and you put up Google Ads and make back a ton of money off it. :\ Which I doubt as well.

Your call, but if it's only $200 or something, and if you really like Tarale... :\

"Fursona?"

Furry persona?

If you feel that way, you should decline. No point in giving away what is essentially you for near-free use, even if you could make a couple of dollars. In any case, it's your decision. Mobile phone games really aren't that big or good (to my knowledge, at least), so it's unlikely that it'd even get much publicity if you happened to be seeking it.

Hi :-)

I'm a little developer of games for mobile phones.
I would to use two of your Tarale artworks (Tarale with a pencil and Tarale with kimono) in my last game (a Sudoku).

I can provide you a lot of credits (your name, contact mail, webpage, ...) in the game for your promotion and a little amount of money (I'm not rich ) for non exclusive rights to use your artwork in this game.

What do you think about this?

See you :-)
Naty

However, I don't think I'm willing to let them do that because the character they want happens to be Tarale, and Tarale is more or less my "fursona" if I at all have one. o.o

What do you think?
