NBC has the chance to redeem themselves at the 2010 Winter Olympics (Vancouver) but they're not willing to compensate affiliates in order to show live coverage. If you want live coverage, you need to make sure you get channels like Bravo/USA/CNBC. :\ Even then not all coverage is live. |

We already have an olympic thread...
but to address the american idol versus olympic ratings...the reason is not because people prefer american idol, but rather due to this thing called the Internet and the instant transmission of event results in less than 12 seconds versus 12 hours... |

Yup. This week the ratings for the winter olympics came out for week one.
16 million people watched the olympics on NBC compared to the 24 million people that watched amatures butcher songs and make it to "hollywood" Reason why? Does anyone actually watch the olympics for the winter time in america? Or even know what half of the events consist of? Besides the new fetish of the states for female figure skating, does anyone know what the hell curling is? Do i need water, the "Swiffer", and ice skates for this? The American ice hockey team can't even out score a lativa hockey team. For christ sakes, its lativa! Yes, granted they won against Kazakhstan, 4 - 1, but thats because they face a country thats named Kazakhstan. For the life of me i never knew there was a country named that. Discuss...please.. |
