Well, one warning, you're bound to run into this, on Windows 2000/XP the program will decide it hates the copy function. Copying and pasting from some places (YY-CHR, the image you're working on, MS Paint) usually works fine, sometimes it'll give you an error but you can just paste again and it'll work, but the program refuses to copy between two instances of itself.

Also, if you have two colors with the exact same RGB value the program will change all of them to use the first color with that RGB value when you save. To prevent this, simply increase/decrease one of the values by one.

Although it's not an issue with the version I linked to, many translations of the program have broken features, untranslated parts, etc. This one has some odd translations but everything works correctly.

Hope that doesn't discourage you from using the program.

I use iDraw3 for my graphics editing needs, it has a lot of quirks, only works with 256 color images (I can't think of anytime I'd need a single graphic with more colors than that, but I'm sure some can...), but palettes are no issue, it leaves them alone.

Photoshop doesn't save the palettes (yes i've tried, like a few years ago), so it doesn't really work (if you do paste it back in all the colours screws up)

Paint Shop Pro does though, but then, you might as well use zcompress + yychr combo, there are gfx which can't be edited in HM.

Am I the only one that uses paint for editing sprites? I mean, it's much simpler then Photoshop, but sprite editing doesn't require a whole lot of sophistacated tools.

Also, thouht I'd toss TLP into the tile editing mix. As long as you have the palettes preset, it shouldn't have any problem going to an image editing program either.

copy the link graphics fresh from hyrule magic and paste as new image into photoshop/psp. The paste the altered link graphics into the unaltered new image you just made and then copy it back into hyrule magic.

Never tried it in photoshop but it works perfectly in Paint Shop Pro. As long as the dimensions and palette stay within the limits there shouldn't be a problem.

A recommendation from me is to use YY-CHR which has relatively no issues with copy back and forth from photoshop or psp.

--- EDIT: HAVENT A CLUE WHAT HAPPENED BUT THE TABLES ARE MUCKED ---

When I copy links sprites to be edited from hyrue magic to photoshop and turn it indo a index color image (You have to to paste it back in) and look at the pallet... its out of order form the oringal one... is there any way to make the pallet in photoshop match the one in hyrule magic... i cant changr them by hand because... I would have to repaint all the colors back the way they were >_<

Yeah this is hard to read...its harder to explain
