I thought of doing that before with Falco idling, but got bored after the first frame. It'd look real awesome though. I have a digital camera that takes movies, and I'll load a few movies tomorrow.
On the sprite itself, I think the lower half of Luigi needs to be completely reworked. Tracing did not translate well there. =\ Otherwise, nifty job. |

Hmm. My advice would be to get a high-quality digital video camera. Or, regular digital camera. Mine does video fairly well. |

Originally posted by neotransotaku Yeah... I know. I did that with the hat. (that only really applies to the vertical orientation of the lighting anyway.) And the way he's standing is the way he stands in game... but it probably looks weird because, as I said, I had to fudge it a bit. If I could get a higher-resolution video of his idle standing animation I could spend hours tracing frames and make a sweet little animated sprite. I guess I'll make a thread in Hardware/Software. If I could capture this footage myself I could make a full Luigi animation with all his attacks etc., which is really what I had in mind when I started. |

The light on luigi is coming off the platform, which came from bouncing off the walls, and from the lava below... (if you wanted to know). So, if you want better lighting, try reversing the dark and light areas (what areas are dark should become light and what areas are light should become dark)
but anyways, that is a good construction of the sprite--although, it seems like his body is twisted (feet facing one way and his torso another) |

This isn't anything astounding in and of itself. I just traced it from a frame in the Under the Sea video: Since the lighting is weird and the resolution is low, I had to fudge quite a bit of it. As you can see, his fists are pretty funky if you look closely at them (and his left fist is somewhat wack even from afar). Also, his boots ended up more Megaman-ish than they probably should be. My point is, I'd like to create animations of some characters idling, doing moves, etc. I could do this with some nice footage, but there's not much of that to be had. What would be ideal is some footage from training mode, with the camera zoomed all the way in, at 1/2 or 2/3 speed. I certainly don't have any video input on my computer I could use to capture this myself (speaking of which, I know this isn't the hardware/software forum, but is there a cheap way to do that? like a fairly cheap video-in card, as opposed to a fancy complete graphics card that includes a video input?), so.... are any of you able to do this? Or do you happen to know of any suitable videos out there I could at least start with? Either way, you can also comment on this lone, sad little sprite. |
