I don't think it's wise to use solar panels to give your home electricity. It is economical, but if everyone had these, it would cost far too much to repair, especially in the urban settings.

Solar power is a huge startup expense but after a while it's only maintainance costs which makes for a wise investment if you plan on staying in the same place for a long time, like 10+ years. Also, the weather isn't really the big issue with solar power it's more the amount of time that the sun is out during the day which is why people further north or south can't really use solar panels because there are large periods of time without much sun during the day whereas people between the two tropics get more than enough sun exposure for solar to be a viable investment. I know when I'm capable of getting a house I'll probably take a very serious look into solar panels, gotta do what you can to keep the world going strong to support all of us who live on it. |

I just remembered that solar power recently became viable because of the development of solar power at 12 volts, so it can be stored, as before that, it wasn't stored and mostly useless. |

When and if I own my own house, I will definitely look into that. Until then, it has no bearing on me.

You don't need a lot of sunny weather--I recall someone living in the mountains near my house where is cloudy 75% of the year and when it rains, it pours and they are powered entirely only solar power... |

Dosen't work too well in Sweden though, considering they have a very low capacity half a year or so. :/
Still, if they get close to 100% effeciency it would be nice. Hell I think the plants in the nature have higher effeciency than human-made solar panels. |

I'd totally do that if it was cheaper. But it does cost way too much for it to be worthwhile.
Plus they are only effective during the day and they operate best when the sky is clear. But still worth getting if they could be had cheaper. |

Also: Solar panels are nice. Lots of people here use them to heat their pools, and it saves money... though yes, panels are rediculously expensive. A few years ago, a 1.5V panel cost nearly $4... |

You put these on your roof, and make elecrticity at your house. A guy from this company came to my house just now, talking for an hour about "how it rocks". 
It does decrease your Electric bills, and you can even sell Electricity - but, the panels cost a fortune. Discuss. |
