Posts: 1329/5653 Even something like a "Save? [Y/N/C]" dialog will trigger the beep (I know, the computers at CCSN do it too) | Danielle |
Posts: 1945/6737 Originally posted by Boom.dk Meh, but I'm never doing anything to cause a system error. Unless it's an error that happens randomly? Either way, I'll keep in mind everything and see if the sound stops. Boom.dk |
Posts: 63/356 I've noticed that on some computers, if they are muted, any system notice/error would make the internal speaker beep. Try unmuting it and turning the volume down instead. | Cynthia |
Posts: 1360/5814 Originally posted by Xkeeper That's happened to me before; just did last night actually. Problem is, when that happens then the keyboard is totally frozen. I either have to use On-Screen Keyboard (*shudders*) or restart. Never figured out why. Trapster |
Posts: 1975/3604 Actually, it was a program that caused one of our fans to stop working but we didn´t know that in the beginning.
| And my brother played a game that barely used any power of the computer. Metal Man88 |
Posts: 97/701 And, of course, make sure no PROGRAMS you use are triggering it normally. If the beep sounds normal, then there's a good chance something or other could trigger it.
| But, yeah, overheating can kill any part of your computer if it gets to an extreme. So be careful; if a fan is making weird noises, then either it's got a bad speed controller or is dying. Dead fans = possibly dead computer if not addressed soon enough. Trapster |
Posts: 1968/3604 Download SiSoftware Sandra. You can keep track of fan speeds and temperatures and much more with it. | BMF54123 |
Posts: 171/876 My guess is that your CPU fan is failing. Many new motherboards will beep when the fan's speed drops below a certain threshhold (mine does at ~1000RPM); if it continues for too long, the board will shut down to prevent damage to the CPU.
| Most motherboards have a fan speed display in the BIOS (or, if you're not comfortable entering the BIOS, the manufacturer will often have a Windows utility or two on their website that does the same thing); I would watch that and see if it fluctuates a lot. A properly working fan should maintain a fairly constant speed. Also, open the computer's case and listen for any odd noises (rattling, buzzing, whining). HyperHacker |
Posts: 989/5072 Originally posted by Xkeeper This also happens if you hold too many keys at once. I've even had it happen (along with a lot of other craziness) when my mouse shorted out. neotransotaku |
Posts: 665/1860 Originally posted by Ran-chanif the fan doesn't work, then the computer wouldn't be on anymore. I ran an AthlonXP2000+ processor without heatsink and thermal compound and the motherboard was powered for 3 seconds before it shut down Trapster |
Posts: 1948/3604 It could be a fan that´s not working too but I hope not.
| Glad I could help some. Danielle |
Posts: 1868/6737 ..Oh that makes sense.
| Considering it is ALWAYS hot here, and my house has no air, and the house is closed up all day... when I get home and turn the comp on it's already warmed up. Huh. Well I'll have to keep my window open or something. Thanks Neo, and everyone else. neotransotaku |
Posts: 661/1860 Originally posted by Daniellea really warm room with no circulation could also do it--that has happened a few times, but that happened during summer, when the AC wasn't turned on, and the computer is on the 2nd floor Xkeeper |
Posts: 1180/5653 Beeping also happens if you're fast enough to overload the input buffer; it'll beep for about .25 of a second to say "stop fucking doing things and let me catch up".
| Usually only happens when you're using all of your CPU loading something (e.g. starting a game), though I've also had it happen when just scrolling with the mouse wheel. Danielle |
Posts: 1857/6737 Originally posted by Ailure But... I turn my computer off every night. In fact, it was on only about 15 minutes when it happened yesterday. And all I was doing was browsing the board... how could that make it overheat? I don't remember what I was doing the other times it happened, or how long the comp had been on for, but it's never on more than 24 hours in a row. Trapster |
Posts: 1917/3604 I think our computer did that but I´m not sure.
| We´ve the warning sound set at 60-65 degrees celsius, I think. Ailure |
Posts: 600/2602 That happens on my laptop sometimes when it's been turned on for hours. So I guess it's overheating.
| It's just usually a warning, since most computers as I understand turns themself off if the overheating really turns to the extremes. Trapster |
Posts: 1913/3604 We´ve heard beepings from one of our computer at home too but that was on a very hot day. Yes, it was on its way overheating but we turned it off. One of the fans
| had stopped working. You know that you can set at what temperature you want it to start beeping, right? I don´t remember how, though. Edit: Our computer beeped like a fucking firetruck. Cornellius |
Posts: 60/108 Sounds like warnings from your motherboard. Check in the mobo book and in the bios to see if you have the good settings or if it is not over heating. | This is a long thread. Click here to view it. | |
