See, this is why I left the thread open.

Pending returning home, I'll work on this...

The main point is the novelty of being able to change all your avatars for all the boards you go to by linking to one picture on one site and then whenever you change that, all the others are changed.

I think you could, eh, possibly allow one or the other, with only one at a time, so that people could choose to upload them here like now or link to them and be restricted like before.

That is my suggestion.

I kinda like this change. Now I can use some of my cooler animated stuff, and it won't look bad at all

I could always do a remote check on file size, to allow external linking, but anyone would be able to make the size change afterward (such as, after the initial check)

And if I simply allow remote linking, I'd have to make all avatars conform to one size again... You guys have no idea just how frustrating the board code is sometimes.

board code management is not a democracy, it is Totalitarianism with Xk at the top. We can complain all we want but in the end, Xk has final call.

acvtually, it was also so I could remove the size limit of 60x*, instead of "anything under 100x100"

I thought I said that five times already

This is the greatest post ever. Cymoro=win. Your reasoning for removing it was to eliminate the tiny amount of users who misuse it, without caring how the vast majority of competent members would feel about it. How difficult is it for an admin to fix something like that? Not hard at all.

That's ironic, because look what you're bitching over as well. Having to edit some users' profiles with something SO DAMN SIMPLE.

You can't somehow combine the two? Is it impossible to make a choice to choose from an uploaded one or an offlinked one? I would imagine it's not that hard.

also, you might as well get used to it, as whenever board2's done you'll be subject to the same damn thing:

I still don't understand why all of you are bitching. the only thing you lost is the ability to use image scripts.

how many of you actually used them? let me check.

... about 5. ouch. amazingly, almost none of the ones bitching about this used them.

Man, removing external linking from the avatar field was a great choice, and really focuses on preventing large pictures.

So Hiryuu, you think we should not allow external linking for anything, which means no php images? You'd rather have that than just letting people link? Jesus christ, it isn't hard for an admin to remove it if someone posts an image that's too big. That's gotta be the laziest thing I've heard all day.

I've softened up about the 100x100 avatars. Adblocking isn't that frequent, and some are even good to look at. I still prefer 60x60, but no biggie. *shrug* The boring memberlist still sucks though.

and wtf Hiryuu, there isn't a large image epidemic and you know it. Someone crosses the line every now and then, but hey, an admin can take care of it easily. wWhy not just ban all external image linking then? I could put a huge pic in my custom title, or layout, and apparently admins are helpless to stop me!!

Insectduel says 100x100 is more fine. But my own is a 60x60. I should make more 60x60 avatars besides the first seven.

(fun fact: you can still get offsite avatars if an admin feels kind)

Of course, no one would actually give you one, but...

You know I did think about that as I posted it but that still doesn't really help when the use of wallpapers, pr0n, or files that don't even equate to images that waste bandwidth when loaded being used. I'm afraid you're not going to get both. Otherwise, it'd be pointless to have the on-site linker which is generally a lot better.

Sides, I doubt seriously that you have to worry about PHP images for avatars. At the very least, there are still people using PHP generated minipic (YD, Dani, for starters) and that in itself should probably be changed soon since that could easily be a wallpaper in a mini and waste a large load space.
