I used to be obsessed with mk and played it endlessly, but i never seen Ermac. I think it's just one of those videogame urban legends. Like the nude code for Tomb Raider, or that arcade game that sent people insane. |

To get Reptile, you had to get flawless victories on both winning rounds during a one-player fight on The Pit without blocking. Then, you had to perform a fatality. After you do that, you will go to the bottom of the pit to fight Reptile. Also, on the Arcade versions, things had to fly across the moon on both winning rounds, but this was not the case in the SNES and Genesis versions. |

To get Reptile, didn't you have to perform a pit fatality when there was a witch or something flying accorss the moon? I remember "look to la luna" |

I remember one of my friends mentioning there was a secret to fight Reptile in the first Mortal Kombat. I think you had to perform a pit fatality, then press a code right when the fatality starts. You end up jumping down to a lower part where you faced Reptile.
In UMK3, Ermac wasn't all that great. I put in the secret kode for single button fatalities. He had only 1 Fatality, "Telekinetic Slam" which became Kenshi's in Deadly Alliance. The other buttons caused the game to freeze. |

I'm tempted to get MAME plus the MK games to see what characters (making codes of course) are on there. |

I dont want to start an argument or anything, but Ermac being in MK1 Arcade version was never confirmed. There is no current proof of the glitch, and back then the only proof was that picture sent in to EGM which could have easily been doctored. |

Actually, if I remember correctly, Rain has been in two games. Both Mortal Kombat Trilogy and the console version of UMK3 had Rain as a playable character. |

Ermac was like Reptile, yeah. Just harder and faster, plus there was no set way to unlock him (obviously) unlike Reptile; and even then everything had to fall into place. |

Toasty! (It should be noted I didn't know that either.) |

I actually remember seeing him in an issue of EGM way back in the day, sent in from a reader. They didn't know the details of it at the time, though. So cool. |

Hrm, I wonder if Ermac will be in Armageddon. |

He was also totally useless in MK Trilogy. |

Oh, I see. I believe that Reptile also was like that, but of course, he was not a glitch and was normally accessable to battle. I only fought him once before and failed, but your description of Ermac is not unlike how Reptile behaved. If I remember correctly, he was also a lot faster than any normal character. That is probably the case with Ermac, too. |

If the original MK screwed up, you could be forced into fighting Ermac who was very difficult to beat because he had both Scorpion and Sub-Zero's moves I think. And a high AI level too.
It was just one of those unexpected things that happened, and it can be recreated but it's very rare to see playing normally. |

Well, I didn't know about it. I thought it was some sorta nickname from Mac. It excited ME at least. XD More things should be named after glitches. |

Yeah, I heard about this glitch before. No source of information has ever mentioned the details on it, though. Any of you wouldn't happen to know anything more about this rare glitch, would you?
Also, I believe that one of the quotes that one of the hidden characters in MK:II says when they are hinting about how to find them makes mention of Ermac as well. |

...I think that most people here who knew about Mortal Kombat knew that Ermac stood for that. Plus you had him in the original...
In the arcade version of Mortal Kombat, a rare glitch occasionally caused Scorpion and Sub-Zero to morph together, resulting in a red (due to color, with which the original ninja animations were shot) ninja, named "ERMAC" (short for "error macro"). Discovering this, some players thought they unlocked a secret character, when in fact they had only uncovered a programming bug. |

That's quite a history to behold. I think I'll have to rewrite my highly acclaimed series on mortal kombat name origins because of that. And here I thought that Ermac was a legitimate name derived from Norse mythology... Silly me. |
