When I open my envelopes, I just rip it all a part to get to the inside . |

interesting responses... I always tear from the side, I don't know. My parents, on the other hand, open envelopes from the top. I wonder where I got the notion of opening from the side... |

I take a knife and just start one along the top, then rip it apart and it is fine.
If no knife is avaible, I have teeth for a multipurpose tool. |

I open them along the envelope flap. Sometimes it looks good, and sometimes it doesn't.
Eh, I have a letter opener made of wood that I made at school once. Maybe I should start using it more. Up until now it has mostly just served as a nice little decoration. |

I usually tear a bit of the flap up, and then use my pinky to rip the rest of the top open. I open letters with my bare hands!!! *gasp* |

I usually rip the top off first.
Failing that, I grab a pair of rocks and cut the envelope up. ...wait, what? |

I use one of those letter openers that has a little plastic thing that you slide under the thing and run the whole thing along and it cuts along the flap. Yes. If I don't have access to a letter opener I use a knife. I'll call that "other." |

Oh yeah, didn't you get a letter opener for Christmas or something?
I've tried letter openers... sadly I suck at those too. |

... I use the flap, using a katana-styled letter opener. |

I try to open the envelopes by the flap...sadly envelope opening is one of those things I suck at so imagine the results. |

I'm the world's worst letter opener ever. Like... the envelops looks like it just got ripped apart by savage wolves by the time I'm done with it, and am able to get the contents out of it.
It's sad. So um... pretty much whichever way works faster. I suck at opening envelopes. |

Tearing along the envelope flap. If I get frustrated and can't seem to open it for any reason, I'll tear the envelope from any side with my bare hands or something sharp. I try to be careful when trying to open it with scissors or something so I won't damage the thing that's inside like a card with money in it which I get in my envelopes about 95% of the time. |

Short side, always. But it took some thought, as the weird way I disassemble letters requires a letter opener and quite a bit of manual dexterity. But that's the end I slide the contents out, and it's the most damaged of the edges.
But Squash won this thread already, so meh. |

Two tallish chairs, placed next to eachother.
Envelope suspended between them. Go back to my room, grab my sword, sharpen a while. Realize that I have a cavalry sword. Head over to friend's house, borrow friend's horse. Charge the envelope, slice as passing. Hope nothing valuable was in the envelope. ...Does that mean I vote "other"? |

I tend to try tearing off the top first. Failing that, I tear across the short side. If that fails too, I'd use scissors. Scissors beats paper. Except that one time someone mailed me a bunch of rocks in an envolope and I had to use the scissors. I'm being serious, that's what actually happened. |

Many of us have received letters in envelopes that look similar to the picture I have linked. I'm curious to how you guys open your envelopes? |
